Will most bicycle shops fix ebikes?

Just wondering how often regular bicycle stores will fix ebikes. Looking to get some spokes replaced as well as a tube replacement + rim tape replacement on the tire with motor, and am wondering where I should take it as the ebike repair store is 30 minutes away, while there are probably a good 5 bicycle repair shops within a 5km distance from my house.

1) A good wheel builder should have no problem; my bike shop built me a fat tire ewheel. If they have problems finding spokes, try Dan's Comp (I know it's a BMX shop).
2) Others may disagree, but duct tape works well as rim tape and easily applied.
3) Purchase thorn proof tubes unless you're using Schwalbe Marathon or similar tires.

Call the closer shops and ask them. Be sure to disclose that it is an ebike. FWIW, we do not work on ebikes that we did not sell. We will replace tubes/tires/rim strips if the customer brings in just the wheel. We will do wheel truing on a non-drive wheel. We might do wheel truing on a drive wheel, depending on its configuration.

Once again Why ask Here instead of calling the Shops Yourself?

Electrical issues (Broad Generalization) if they sell them.

but tire and tube replacements are Generic, though removing and re installing a HubMotor wheel will incur a bit more time to do and may cost a couple bucks more..

One issue you may run into with some ebikes is large diameter spokes, like 12 or 11 gauge. Not many shops equipped to custom cut and thread those.

Just ask them. I was surprised to see that both of my local bike shops are willing to do general maintenance on them. Change tires, true wheels, adjust Brakes and derailleurs, etc. If they are good mechanics and are handy with tools, they should be able to disconnect a couple of cables and Torque brace. Beyond that, it's just a bike. Anything electrical and e-bike specific I'd of course take it to a dedicated e-bike store.

Definitely, one needs to approach the nearest e-Bike store to get it repaired without any risk & doubts in mind. You can contact those bicycle stores near to your house for analysis of faults you have in your e-Bike. It may be possible that they'll provide you better advice related to your e-Bike issues. Moreover, if you need to buy or get to change new spare parts, I can give you better suggestions on that.

I deal with customer support every day bcause I sell electric bikes at Farbike.com and find most customers have good experience at local bike shops. Also if in the rare case a bike shop wont deal with the electrical system, we just send a replacement part with swap instructions. Since the only difference between an electric bike is a battery, controller, motor and throttle (and brake switches to be exact) a bike shop can easily reapir anything as long as we send them the part.

welcome farbike.

Yes we know these bikes arent all that complicated, but there are many shops that just wont deal with product that wast purchased at THEIR shop. Sometimes the "snobbery" is justified, and other times its silly. Just chat a shop up and see what they are like.

That's odd. I'm guessing he won't sell you the next one either.

Powell The system seems to have gone totally dead. I believe the battery is good and is showing green when I push on the charge port. When I put the battery on nothing happens. My question is will the brake switch do this? The brake switch wire seems to be crimped quit a bit.

The brake switch would just put the system in re-gen, sounds like a broken wire, or a connection problem with the controller...

EDIT; Oh and as far ar the bike shop not fixing your BionX because you didn't buy it there, let BionX know about it... Contact Us - e-bike, electric bicycle systems | ridebionx.come-bike, electric bicycle systems | ridebionx.com

Just about any shop can do the basic BIKE repairs on E-bikes, like fix flats, replace chains etc. What many cannot do is work on the electrical side.

Just did simple tests - holding break lever/with switch/ does not affect powering up.
Sliding battery in with the same lever holding also do not affect powering up.
NOW
can I disconnect lever switch easly?

I did contact Bionx and complained. They gave me their list of dealers in the area. I found an Ebike store that now has the bike and is fixing it.
