When did you notice drop in battery performance?
I have a 15 IZIP E3 Dash, has around 220 miles on it. During a full charge it always read 45 miles max range. I just took my 1st long ride took the battery level to zero.
Upon charging it back to full it now read 40 miles max range. Could I have damaged the battery by running it to zero power? I can't see why max would go from 45 to 40 miles for no reason. |
You shouldn't damage the battery by fully discharging but it's possible the fuel gauge re-calibrated and the range was adjusted based on the revised capacity of the battery. Tough to tell whether the battery fuel gauge is accurate unfortunately.

Lithium batteries don't like being fully discharged. My experience though is that after a few charge cycles where you DON'T fully discharge them they should come good again.
Fully discharging lithium batteries on a regular basis is not a good idea. Also, Lithium batteries don't like being left fully charged without use either. If your not going to use the battery within 2 days or so you would be best to only charge it to 80%. Lithium batteries are very powerful but also a little finicky. Anthony |
BMS should protect your battery from going too low, but as indicated above could still be a problem. "SOMETIMES", balance charging (leaving on the charger for a couple of hours after fully charged --- or longer) will bring it back. I won't charge my batteries unless I'm in the house though, so this could be a problem for you.

Boy this is all new stuff to me. Seems like a pain to maintain to peak form. But its one heck of a toy these ebikes. Thanks for the advice.

I overwhelmed myself with this info at first, but then decided to just charge and ride and see how it turns out. If my battery doesn't last as long as it should, then I will buy another one and analyze my charging regimen.

What was the difference between the two days? Was the lower capacity on the colder day?. That would be normal. |

I bring the battery inside to stay at room temperature when not in use. I too noticed that leaving it outside in the cold temperatures affected its performance somewhat, and gave inconsistent readings from the display.

I got a response from IZIP on the matter.
The range on the screen is not 100% accurate. It’s more of a snap-shot of all factors on the bike right now. This range guesstimation is extrapolated from stored energy and rate of being used, and this can easily vary greatly every second while being used. When batteries are new, they may lose a bit of capacity right away, but be very stable over many months going forward. |
Bionx battery charging problem
I am currently having a problem with charging my Bionx 360 HT L battery.
In Short: Battery purchased approx Aug 2012 2000 km done on it I rode the bike recently and battery was nearly to zero Left overnight not on charge I put it on charge the next morning but noticed that 24 hours later it hadn't charged. There is no light visible on the charger. Nothing red, green or amber Battery is beeping approx every 1/2 hour G2 Console still turns on. No error codes. Voltage checked via diag mode is 36.8 to 37 V Suspecting a deep discharge problem, I tried 'battery recovery' by lifting the back wheel off the ground and turned the cranks whilst having the charger connected and console off. I did this for 5 mins and the battery began beeping approx every two minutes. But still no light on the charger. Any ideas? Severely depleted battery? Broken charger (most likely)? How can you help me with this? Sam |
