Hub motor or mid drive?
 

Admittedly I'm new to the Ebike game and have not rode mid drive. My Ebike is a direct drive hub motor.
I live in a very hilly area and research on the net led me to believe I needed a mid drive kit. However the speed and ebrake capability of hub motors made me feel disappointed that I would have to go mid drive to climb local hills. Fortunately I could physically go to Grin technologies a Ebike kit vendor and they sold me on direct drive and I have had no problem climbing hills.
But if I wasn't lucky enough to have a local vendor I might have gone mid drive which would have been the wrong system for my needs. I'm not shilling here . I'm hoping to start this thread so newbies are better informed.

Yeah, I usually tell people mid drive for hills, hub for simplicity and ease of maintenance (very quiet, no maintenance).

I did manage to break a chain commuting home on my hub drive, and got home just fine with no chain.

I like light weight, so no direct drive for me. My motor weighs about 4lbs.

Hub drives are great if you don't fall below 50% of your cruising speed when riding up a hill. Below that and I would go mid drive.

Hub drive for flat lands, head winds , mid drive for torque to climb hills..

Mid drive for hunting! What a cool idea. Low enough gear could drag a deer out of the bush! Light weight! I won't put my Hub Ebike on transit bus front bike racks scared it won't stay on. Could never carry my Ebike up a flight of stairs if skytrain elevator broke.
Steepest hills for me still on a road and moderate pedaling keeps motor above 50% max rpm is not an issue for me. Now I'm running a 52 volt system that actually puts out 56 volts at full charge.
Of course their are geared hubs as well hope to hear from you folk. Different animal to direct drive. I guess hub vs mid drive nice easy title but really the question is direct drive or geared hub vs mid drive.
