1958 Schwinn Jaguar

I am restoring a 1958 Schwinn Jaguar and would like to add electric motor assist as I live in a hilly area.
Front or rear, but my rear end is a 3 speed Sturmey Archer internal hub congfiguration.
Looked at a lot of front wheel conversion kits but all require a 3.9" front fork drop while the Schwinn's is only 3.6". Prefer not to file down or modify the OEM forks.
Anyone know of a kit that will fit thus bike?
Thanks.

More than likely the forks are steel and could be spread slightly. For instance, I converted a steel fat bike for a friend before wider rear hubs were available and squeezed a 209 mm rear to 135 mm without incident. Later, when wider hubs were available we pushed it back to 170 mm. That said there are some front hubs (AFAIK) in which a spacer or two could be removed and used without modification of the fork - look ar Xiongda, ezee (ebikesca) or BMS battery (Q100 system). ebikesca has great CS and will answer any questions for you.

Thanks for the reply. I saw that the forks could be spread am reluctant to do that.
Looking at possible rear drive kits but the internal hub of Sturmey Archer seems prohibitive.
But thanks again.

You're correct about a problem with the rear hub although I think ebikesca has an IGH /e-hub system. Otherwise it's either front hub, mid-drive or some type of friction drive.

What is your front axle diameter?

Why not use a mid drive kit?

Sorry for slow reply. New to this site. Think front axle is 1/4" diameter. Certainly not metric.
I know that is another consideration in addition to fork drop out.
Not considering mid drive due to expense and weight and clearance.
