Order of insertion for battery charging

Order of insertion for battery charging
I was talking to an eBike customer support rep, and they were saying that it's important to plug the charger into the battery first (with the battery turned off) BEFORE plugging the charger into the wall. In other words, unplug the charger from the wall each time, and only plug it back in after the charging plug is in the battery.
Then, when done charging, unplug from wall first, and then unplug from battery.
Does anyone do this? Does it really make a difference? Just curious.

Every time you plug in a battery or charger there is a chance of a charge buildup rapidly discharging, and we have fuses to protect against this. We recommend having the battery in the off key positions and plugging the charger into it before into the wall every time. This is the best way to preserve your battery over time.

I've heard that it doesn't matter, and in fact, one individual said it's better to plug the charger in first to make sure it's operational (lights go on). I've been doing it this way for three years.

I think it's good advice, I've seen some of my chargers refuse to start if they're plugged in to a battery with the AC already on. My habit now is to connect the charger unpowered first.
I do own half dozen or more chargers and that many batteries so I probably pair up units from different vendors quite often.
