Lectric XP LITE
If you've been on YouTube in the last couple of days, possibly you've seen a review of the subject bike. This is a folding, 48v, 500w 20 mph bike that weighs about 45 pounds and is selling for $799. It seems like it would adapt to commuter and light trail use well. As happens frequently when I see a new model, I reach for the CC and must have it. Then I realize that I ride very little terrain that it's designed for and already have a similar "more MTB-style" bike. Still, it looks excellent for the price.

Already posted in the Folding Electric Bike thread two days ago.
Price is great, but it's a single speed; probably not ideal for even light trail use with elevation change, flat, hardpack trail along a river maybe. I'd imagine it is ideal for those who are just getting their first ebike and returning to cycling and don't want to mess with gears. |
|
Nice little bike, I could see a lot of uses for it. Looks like they are out 4 weeks.
|
Aw damn,...looking good!
|
I had similar ebike, it had different brand name, 7 speed and 350w motor, it was great except you run out of gears qiuckly.
|
My son just purchased the "regular" version, so it'll be interesting to see how it does over a period of time. He's very impressed so far (as is my other son with a Rad).
|
I'm torn between getting the XP Lite, Origami Bull (totally ACOUSTIC!), and a completely different ride altogether,...another electric commuter scooter - the Niu KQi3 Max. Ugh,...
|
Lectric offer belt drive Live at below $1K, (pre-sale under $800), hydraulic brakes & under 50 lb. (for small battery model)

Now if Lectric would only add an upgrade option for the battery, this would be the PERFECT bmx style e-beater bike IMO. Still, this is a SOLID low cost single speed ride.
EDIT: OMG!!! They have a long range option!!! WooHoo!!!!! |

Well, we'll expect pics and a review....

It's ordered, and I'm awaiting shipping... Lectric XP Lite JW Black Long Range. It comes with the elite headlight, fenders & rack, and a bike lock. I also opted for the 2 years extended warranty. I would have never purchased the Juiced RipRacer if this was available at the time. It's an excellent bike (RipRacer), but too dang heavy for what I like to do. The XP Lite is exactly what I want, with NO GEARING (single speed baby).

When you get a discount code, order the comfort package. Or at least get the $25 'GREAN' seat from Amazon. (I think the seat + shock seatpost is worth $100. The shock is not super-effective like a Suntour NCX, but it makes a difference on those sharp bumps) That stock seat is really bad. I see they put a BMX-style handlebar on it too; very nice. Are you going to ram the seat all the way down and set it up like a BMX, or raise it up and get decent torque from your legs? Do come and report back when it arrives. |
Installing the lock behind the seat tube is pretty fiddly. Doing it with the rear wheel off would make it easy, but getting the rear wheel off and back on is quite the job. Just use the hex key and some patience.
Buy yourself an 18 mm open end wrench too. If you rear flat, you'll need it, and one wasn't provided with the bike when I got mine. The motor wires come out through the axle, so a box wrench won't work and a semi-open flange nut wrench won't work either. (too thick) I think these still come with Slime in the tires; that's a great touch too, considering what a b1tch it is to fix a flat. |

You're going to LOVE it. Belt drive & street tires just make this PERFECT. Belt drive on a folding bike really makes a ton of sense. The way this bike folds, it's just not comfortable to do it from the non-drive side. But then? → chain grease on your arms and clothes.

Riding style wise, I'll opt for a seat up torque rider feel. I was never a BMX'er back in the day, so trick riding isn't my thing.

I'll eventually get the comfort package, since I saw all the reviews saying g the new seat sux. I have a few laying around (seats) to use until I upgrade. That suspension seatpost is definitely something I want.

I still have my original XP Lite, yes. |
My mistake; I thought tds' 2.0 signified the $1K model, not the Lite.
|
I have the XP Lite 2.0 JW Black (belt drive) Edition... I love everything about it EXCEPT the kickstand. It catches my heel, and I almost busted my arse multiple times riding it. I'm going to swap it out for a double, center mounted kickstand. Otherwise it's a fantastic, small sized folding ebike.

(it's 4 lbs heavier than the gen 1 Lite, likely on account of having a longer cross tube to accommodate the larger battery that is common with the regular XP series) |

Actually, I think the 2.0 with belt drive IS a $1k model! Instead of having the more powerful motor, gears and extra weight, it has belt drive and a larger battery than the 1st gen Lite.
