2022 Verve 3.0 Trek e bike speed sensor problems

On my friends bike the magnet is on the disc rotor and the sensor is zip tied inside the lower stay on the frame. It's not the way some Utube videos are showing the magnet on the spokes. My friend is bringing his bike back to the trek store for the third time. It shows "error 503" on the display. It's still under warranty so I have not touched it yet. Apparently, the Trek store just got a service report from Trek about this problem. He says they would not let him read it. I'm ready to take the wheel off and see if I can shim the magnet or the sensor closer. I was hoping that someone here has some firsthand experience with this already ???
The problem shuts off the motor and he has to pedal home. The speed showing on the display jump all over the place. I have fixed a lot of non electric bike computers just my moving the magnet or the switch a little. I'm sure a lot of us here have done that. You can just barely see the magnet or the sensor with the rear wheel on this bike.

its not how close the magnet is its how well its lined up to the sensor side to side. with the treks wit the magnet on the disc it should not be an issue but since you said the sensor is zip tied I would check its position. there is a line on the sensor a vertical line the magnet should be centered on that.
but it can Las obe a bad display connection. I have had both.

Thanks!!

I paid 30.00 to have mine checked as I was lining it up with the screw hole :) one thing I like about my allant 8 no way it can be misaligned. here is a diagram.

Is your magnet on the disc rotor, or the spokes?

disc rotor but I have two bikes where its on the spokes. sometimes the magnet can be turned almost 90 degrees before it stops working.

Update. The Trek store gave my friend a loaner bike, and, they said the needed to talk to Bosch.
End result~ the shop ended up shiming the magnet closer to the sensor. Just like I would have done. :50:

And plenty of others would have done the same thing. Oh well, It was done under warranty for free.
