Seen today at the Dump !
 

I wondered what happened here. Saw these two ebikes at the local dump / recycle transfer. They are in the scrap heap.

Tires had air and chain / freewheels show minimal wear.

I suspect somebody bought these and rode them 2x. Or maybe the batteries failed.

Kinda sad.

yes good chance the batteries died they are pretty old.

So many usable parts going to waste. Brakes, fork, fenders.

I'm sure there are more than a few that would be able to make a new battery pack.

They are cheap e-bikes re-branded for Polaris more likely than not. Yes technically there are parts on it but none of them are any good parts or really worth anything. If you are trying to rehab another cheap-o hunk of piece they are the same parts that were probably on it. Sure maybe tossing it completely is wasteful to a point but saving junk turns you into a hoarder.

Polaris eBicycle seen in happier times.

The review in 3alamer's post goes back to 2012. I'm not that familiar with e-bikes but that doesn't seem that old compared to a regular bicycle. They still look and seem to be in good condition.

I've been chastised in the past for riding an environmentally unfriendly g-bike. When I see machines that took polluting energy and chemicals to produce along with onboard toxic technologies being discarded rather than being refurbished or rebuilt, it makes me wonder just how environmentally friendly e-bikes actually are..

I also wonder how many miles and gallons of gas would I have to to travel and burn on my g-bike to equal the pollution in the creation of a new modern e-bike.

Come on. For use on an ebike, a wheel is a wheel. I could use two front 26" wheels with tires, calipers and rotors. The handlebars and stem, if not steel, are always nice to have, as are brake levers with electroical cut\offs.

Sure, none of the parts will go on your 20 lb bike, but they're probably as good or better what is used on most ebikes,
