Drop Bars For E-bike ...
I have a step-over Lectric XP-3
https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...446c766a4d.jpg I prefer drop bars because narrow feels better to me. Before I explain what I did, I want to say that this set up is not for those who are new to riding e-bikes. I have been a serious rider for over 55 years and understand the differences between powered and non-powered bikes. I'm pretty sure some of you will chide me for my foolishness to alter the factory specified components. Chide away... Last year my hydraulic brakes leaked, so they were replaed with cable-pull hydraulic brakes. Feels the same to me. With that done a realistic option to go with drop bars opened up. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...80491c97b4.jpg The front bar loop allows the Power/PAS control and a modified-to-fit thumb-throttle to work conveniently. The brake/shift levers are made for seven-speed Shimano derailleurs. They do not have the wiring to de-power the drive system when pulled. In use, I don't need that feature. Now I feel more comfortable riding on drop bars and the variety of hand positions they afford... Ride on... |
Nice mod! Can you post a pic of the whole bike?

(above) What's not stock: Shimano Alltus Rear Derailleur, Shimano 14-34 freewheel, Campy 52 tooth crankset. Pedals, Extra-tall Seatpost, Brooks C17 Saddle. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...b7e4b5ef4.jpeg (above) Not stock: Sunlite Flame 20x3 Tires, Light, Bars/etc. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...9dcf43bee.jpeg (above) Not Stock: C17 Saddle, bars/etc. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...c9d9aade9.jpeg (above) Not stock: DYISLAND XT-7 cable actuated disc brakes, Profile Designs KAGE bottle holders, Zizzo rack bag, and what's been mentioned before. The down tube was painted over and I put my surfboard logo on it. The fenders have been removed, I don't ride in the rain. My wish list: A slightly shorter non-folding/adjustable stem. Simple is better. I don't have the need to fold it. A non-shock front fork. Don't need it for where I ride most of the time, the paved rural roads in Whatcom County, Washington State. |
Wow that is one maxed out looking Lectric. I bet it is a fun ride!

Ummm... SPECTACULAR!!!
|
Nice job; nothing like customizing for comfort. The only thing I would add is use some 1" plastic, electrical, spiral wrap to make the wires in front prettier (but I'm OCD about that). Many rigid forks have 10" steerers and you might have problems getting the bars high enough with one (check Crust Bikes or equivalent).

The cable finishing is not finished…
The fork and stem improvements give me something to dream about as I fall asleep each night.. |

The actual bars from the people who made them and unfortunately had their design stolen:

https://ridefarr.com/product/aero-gr...arious-widths/ Designs evolve...The flatter tops are more comfortable to me... Similar to what's on my other bikes... I do understand the "stolen" designs issue... I pioneered a hollow wood surfboard method in 2002... I've watched from the sidelines the replication of my designs since then... Was I upset, no... It happens, and there is little you do about that unless you have a patent (not cheap) and deep pockets for attorneys (not cheap) to aggressively go after the infringers... Everything has a window of originality and its inevitable that less than creative people copy the pioneers... I decided to not be a board builder, in the sense that it was my only job... I took my show on the road internationally and taught wood board building workshops around the world...There's good money in that and zero competition... I could see doing something similar, traveling and teaching bike building workshops.. Wooden bikes with few design compromises... It can be done... |

What I prefer on the bar's on my bike are the flattened sections along the straight part of the bar...

That is what these QBVIAs and HOOGSKVAs and WEERAASs do they steal designs and Billionaire Jeff Bezos' Amazon and Alibaba and his 40 thieves give them a platform to sell this knockoff/fake/stolen stuff legitimately and unfortunately yet is is tough to fight them because the Chinese government does not really do anything to stop it and neither do the 3rd party sites that sell them so there really is no accountability. However we can do our part and not promote their products and not use their products and give them any money or legitimacy |
