Since I'm chronically underemployed, I have time to play with different ideas for practical electric bikes.

This is my latest....kind of a cargo bike. It's had over 200lbs on the back rack, and was still very stable riding.

I'm running a 48 volt, 11 amp hour pack made out of DeWalt A123 LiFePo4 batteries, and a chrystalite 5403 hub. In the last few days, I've put on almost 80 miles, with the longest run at 10 miles before charging. As near as I can estimate, it looks like I can expect a possible 20 mile range on the pack. The handling is quick and light, and the ride, with it's front and rear suspension, is superb....even sitting in the very ergonomic hard plastic ABS racing seat.

I just finished making this:

http://lh6.ggpht.com/_lS5mgnByR6M/TF...0/DSCF1975.JPG

It uses NiMH batteries from a junked Ford Escape hybrid, so that's one less SUV on the roads :-)

Both the bike and the trailer fold and will fit easily in the trunk of a car or can be packed for air travel. They are my ninja public transport machines and are bus and train friendly. :-)

I've been riding the Hebb Electro Glide 500. Real clean ride. I'm loving some of these custom bike kits that I'm seeing on these forums though! Gotta get my hands on a trike to try out at some point.

Snorkenaway 09-30-10 05:43 PM

nice job.

Bicycle Funk 10-01-10 05:37 PM

Heroic that is an awesome setup!

Your bike looks like a high-end limousine, a very nice looking machine.
I would suggest adding an additional front hub motor, and replacing the battery pack with two four pound Li-Ion batteries. Kind of like having AAA by your side.

Just saw your note, Thanks! I haven't been on this forum for a while, too much riding:) The bionix system is still working well, even with my 60#plus bike. I strongly recommend recumbents, especially for us older folk (65+).

Wow thats a great bike! What are you using the generator on the front wheel for? Headlight? How many watt motor? Good build, you will enjoy it

Another Tidal Force build

This is my recently completed Tidal Force frame electric bike. The frame was purchased from Oatnet on ES. I put a 9c 10x6 rear motor with a 36v10ah battery. Really a good riding bike.

That is sweet! How's the traction?

If you ever want a challenge, you could try to ride it as a Segway Unicycle... thing ;)

I think you have to find WOMEN BIKE for her!! what I see is not "....a little too tall" .. but really incomfortable and DANGEROUS for her....
E-bike are not light, and when I use my bike with a lot of my equipment on it - it's NOT GOOD AT ALL to use stupid standart "triangular ".. "men" construction... so I use "women" bike long enough -->

http://www.sergesphotography.com/tem...ra%20Bag_5.jpg

..so now I'v got the 500watt wheel KIT from EcoCycleShop.com for $770 and here is couple screenshots from installation VIDEO I did:
http://www.sergesphotography.com/tem...allation_1.jpg

http://www.sergesphotography.com/tem...allation_2.jpg

and... Here we go.. -->

http://www.sergesphotography.com/temp/Bike_1.jpg

http://www.sergesphotography.com/temp/Bike_2.jpg

... Now I need to find the way - how to make some kind of "basket" for my cameras and lenses, as I had before.. but I'd like to have it in MUCH LOWER POSITION ... -->

...and than, get and install this kind of TRALER to it:
http://www.sergesphotography.com/temp/E_Bike_5b.jpg

All together should be looks like this:
http://www.sergesphotography.com/tem...ke_trailer.jpg

Seems as I will need TWO MOTORS for it.. so.. I'll extend another 500 watt motor into FRONT WHEEL...

arkcom 12-04-10 12:16 PM

Good job Serge! Looks good, but I should mention that on my bike the derailleur drags on the motor in first gear. Try to check it before you ride. Also, the motor is half a turn off (wire should come out of the top). That might put a bit of stress on the wire, but it will only take a few seconds to fix.

Edit: Did you not put the brake levers on? If you get a chance, you should go ahead and install them. You don't want to be giving it gas while trying to stop in an emergency.

And.. I don't get it .. - we replace the brakes levers with those from you kit and connect them into controller.. is it wrong ? :)

:thumb: I just couldn't see it in the pics.

You can slide that spring on the motor wire down into the hole in the axle.
