Here's my newest e-bike build .. Litespeed Ti frame with horizontal drops and a Tange front fork .. BBS02 Bafang with color display running a 52v 7amp/hr MiniCube just under the saddle.. saddle is a Selle Anatomica on top of a Body Float seat post.. I laced a SRAM P5 Spectro IGH 5 speed hub in the rear.. Velocity hub in the front .. wheels are Velocity 650b Cliff Hangers .. tires Schwalbe Kojaks slicks .. grips are Ergon cork GP5 .. I'm using a GripFast stem shock .. my goal was a relatively fast, efficient, comfortable e-bike that wouldn't beat me up too much at 24+ mph and 30 mile jaunts ... bike as it sits is 43.5lbs with tools and hand pump .. after almost 100 miles, I am very happy..

Nice build. I like tourer styles. Nice racks. Is the front a custom build or can these racks be purchased. thanks. Brian in Australia

Full suspension Downtube 8FS folder with a 250W rear hub motor. Batteries go in the bag under the seat, either a 36V or 52V battery. Tires are 30mm. Roll great, up to 24 mph with the 52V battery. First bike we've owned with full suspension. Sweet ride, and needed with 20" tires.

Title pretty much says it all. The motor is a BaFang 750W center drive. A little unrefined and works perfectly with a Rohloff Speed hub. Can you say fully suspended?

Its so cool watching the progression of e-bikes in this thread from 2008 to 2017. Amazing how fast this technology has developed into simple, reliable, and longer battery life bolt on kits.

I've since put on a 20AH LiFePO4 and get much more consistent performance. But still gotta be careful pushing it past 20km
wow been 8 years now since I posted that

same bike, but now with Li-ion battery and a Bafang BBs02 mid drive (and colour display unit). vastly better ... but not much faster actually. Returned to the suspension fork now that the Crystallite wheel ain't on there. keeping on truckin

Wanted a sort of retro looking e-bike. Started with an old Huffy mountain bike hanging in the shed, new black & white spray paint job, springer fork, large seat. Added a 48V rear wheel motor kit and some small motorcycle rigid side saddle bags to hold battery, controller, and other electronics. 20ah, 48V LI battery. Torquey as all getout. Top speed is 28mph. Faster than that frame was designed to go!

One side holds battery (foam keeps it from bouncing around) and electronics, other side is for cargo.

Added some LED lighting by using a 48v to 12v converter. The saddle bags were for motorcycle so they came with lights in the lids. Just had to hook them up.

How do you like the Bfang mid drive kit compared to the front wheel kit? Was thinking of putting a mid drive kit on a Schwinn trike to use as local delivery/pickup vehicle for my PC repair business. I like the idea of having gears to get up hills that needed some pedal assist with the rear hub motor kit I have now. Is it better or no?

love it. It is like going from Model T operation to mid century cadillac, LOL.

OK the wheel motor is super simple and super reliable. It is significantly heavier and has moderately harmful effects on handling. I never tried it with 'pedelec/PAS' and maybe I should have because the throttle is too addicting. But its real downfall is in climbing hills with a fairly heavy rider on board - can max out the 12AH liion 48V battery on a short hill. I live in PNW and it can be very hilly getting around town and out in the country.

The Bafang mid drive is much nicer. Quieter, and of course I can use gears. Also the display gives me so much info for managing the energy and heat - this makes it IMMENSELY more usable with less risk of being stranded. Also delivers a bit higher top speed because of the gears too - the wheel model wen top speed of 45kph, this one can go 50kph. Just a proper 21st century machine to rival the many $4000-10,000 ebikes on the market (I find those prices utterly outrageous, being as I have similar quality $1000 bike, with $1200 ebike system, and I might buy a Zero electric Motorcycle for $11k cdn eventually which goes 0-60mph in 3s).

The mid drive makes this bike useful for a little mountain biking also, though I would prefer more of a 'trail bike' setup with larger dia wheels for riding off road here. I do a lot of mtn biking w/o motor, and have normal bikes for that. I ordered up some Marathon Supreme 2.0 tires for this bike ot reduce the rolling resistance. Also installed a 48V headlight and horn today - beep beeeeep

I love those hard bags Mark!

What brand are the integrated shift/brake on your Trek? I don't see many on the market.

not sure the brand. 'china unbranded' I guess. These brake levers came with the BBS02 kit.

the good thing is .. the motor-stop switch within the brake lever is easily removed with a couple screws. I could easily glue this to some regular hydro brake levers if I needed to.

Hi guys and gals. I am new to this EBike building but always want one. So over the last few days I have put together a Ebikeling 48v 1200w geared hub motor kit on my cheap 700c road bike. for now it has 4 12v 12ah sla batteries but the 48v 12ah lipo4 batter is on it's way as I type this. So here is my EBike.

where did you buy those fenders?

My Lift +, couldn't take the Bontrager fenders because there was a bar inside the pipe to the handle bars. Yours don't look the same as those I have seen.
I need fenders because of the dirt, dust, and water that get across bottom of bike.
any help appreciated,
Al

The fenders on the white Lift are Bontragers installed by a Trek dealer.

If you poke a finger up into the steerer tube on the Lift models, you can feel a cross pin above the fender-mount hole. Possibly, your bike didn't get the stop-pin during manufacturing. If so, I suspect that your handlebar stem could be down far enough into the steerer tube to block the fender mount hole.

I've done several hub motor kits including a trike but I found an IZip bike at a big discount on their web page. I was going to buy another kit but found a new 2015 model. Loving it!
