Picking a bike to Kit
 

Hi everyone,

I went to the bike shop today near my house to try and get a bike that would best fit a hub motor kit. All the best options are in 700c rims though, and I found some VERY nice bikes, from Giant and Trek.

Is the one I want to get, its $469 at the local shop and No pst until the end of July. Does this seem like a good bike? The fork size is 100mm, and so was the other MTB's I found. Is this enough for Crystalyte motor setup in the front? Thank you very much for answering!

Noone has any input? Im totally torn. I originally didnt want to spend more than $200 or 150 on a bike, used but now I also dont want a heavy pig. Im in Canada if that makes any difference.....

Ok so I bought the Giant FCR3. The size im getting is a small, and it comes to just around 26lbs, the lightest of all ive tested. Im guessing next move is a Crystalyte motor, which seems to be the best option although I would ahve preffered the cyclone but it seems reliability is horrible and so is service.

Here I thought some of you might like a pic, I just picked it up today, it is REALLY light. Raining though cant try it yet,

I know the Bionx kit would easily work on that bike. I'm pretty sure Crystalite will work as well.

Bionx is way more than I wanted to spend. What about the currie geared hub motors? I dont want anymore than 30-35 km/h?

Wow this is the first bike ive seen that looks much better in the home picture. Did you go with black/silver because thats what it came in or was it also a factor that you thought it would match the electric components well?

If you get a weight on it let me know that bike looks great to me I might get one.

Out of this, the Kona Dew, the 7.2FX and a Marin Larkspur, it was the lightest with the Medium frame weighing in at 26.5 pounds. The small frame, mine, is about 26 flat. The Kona was 26.9, and the Trek 27.4 I believe. I didnt weigh the Marin, it wasnt close.

It was $70 more then the Kona, and $60 less than the Trek, but it was the lightest and IMO the best looking.

P.S The colour was what it comes with, unless you get the Unisex/Womens version.

You can thank the Ontario government for there being no PST on bikes under $1,000. If the retailer is telling you that it's a limited time offer then they are pressuring you to buy.

E-bike
 

Can not suggest the appropriate bike but would like to know from where you found the best kit. I'm now interested in e-biking. I have a nice road bike but it's 10 miles to work in Dallas and with the summer heat I'd rather ride than pedal. I'll pedal in the fall when it's cooler.

I dont know whether to purchase an e-bike that fully equipped (such as the new Schwinn) or just get a kit for my road bike.
