The Bionx PL500HS (High Speed)

I saw a post in here mentioning that so I thought I'd start a new thread just on this.

I didn't realize Bionx had a high speed version of their motor! It's a 500W motor designed for higher speeds.

I have a PL250. While it's been really nice to have, I found that i need to go about 25+ mph to safely get down some stretches of streets (without a car having to pass me). My cruising speed on flats at level 3 is about 22 mph. I can go 27 if I really push it, but my bad back usually screams at me not to do that. With the PL500HS, looks like 27 can be my new cruising speed.

Unfortunately, they only allow this to be sold in CA and it also requires registration. I'll have to find someone in CA to smuggle this in for me.

Here's more info about it from Greenspeed's site.

Whynot for buy Crystalyte kit? 500W for Phoenix, running 30mph, 35mph, 40mph, with use for ultralite lithium batt. Not need for smuggle. Pricey is less for.

Two reasons: I want pedal activated assist so that it still feels like a bicycle and something light enough to allow me to easily place my bike on a bus or car bike rack.

Plus anything faster than 35 mph on a regular basis is getting more on the dangerous side. I don't need assist speeds up that high.

Nycewheels was saying these kits wear out the battery much more quickly so they stopped selling them. Electric Cyclery says these kits are fine and that you don't get lower number of charge cycles. I'm sure the truth is somewhere in between. There's probably not a lot of readers here who have one of these kits. Anyway, I'll be ordering one soon. Here's to quicker commutes and longer rides!!!
