Seems like most of the electric bike folks I meet spend a lot more time riding their bikes (or fussing with them) then most of the folks I meet who make snide comments about cheating. (And not too many of those bicycle to work.)

That being said, I'm not trying to sit around and judge people for riding them.
Since the ebike let's me get there faster, more trips are practical, and I end up biking even more. Nothing lazy about that. |
you guys still going on about that ? :D:innocent:

I've been commuting 15 miles each way to work for three days a week for the last 10 years or so. I'm now almost 58 and I no longer find it fun. I love it with a tailwind and level or slight downhill, but the uphills and headwinds are very hard. This was the first bad year - YMMV. I was into a 15 mph headwind the whole way home last night and I was inventing new words.
I noticed it with surfing also. Until this year I put away the board from November thru April. Normally May comes around, I hit the water (full wet suit) and paddle out and do my usual crappy job riding waves. This year I hit the water in May and my arms just wouldn't paddle. It took a month to get them back into shape. So this winter I'm swimming once or twice a week to keep my arms ready. And I need to figure out some way to keep biking. I can get a job closer to home. I can sell my home and move closer to my job. Or I can find some way to make the headwinds and hills easier for my aging heel, knees, and muscles. I'm thinking one of those Schwinn WorldGSE things might do the trick. The Tailwind model just seems too expensive. For that matter, the WorldGSE does to, but not as out of the ballpark. |
I guess the best response to cyclists who say you are lazy or cheating is to tell them they are lazy/cheating by using a bicycle instead of walking or running.
We use bike or e-bikes because they make human powered transport quicker and more efficient and they are both hugely greener then other modes of travel. Perhaps those who make these accusations should go back to the penny-farthing and not bother with all of those cheating gears (I know they are those who actually do and that's fine if that's what they like) |

They can be used to make hill climbing easier, offering an unfair advantage against other cyclists who have to pedal using their own muscles unaided. Are ebikes unfair and for lazy people? Before you attack... <---------ebike owner, enthusiast, and rider For me its about speed. I have always owned offroad vehicles with 2-6 wheels. I love nothing more then scaring myself out of the reach of the law. With my E-bikes I get to ditch my car and the expense of gas driven offroad toys. I can get a great workout and get around. I love e-bikes. They are low cost and anyone can learn to do the upkeep themself with very little effor or space required. I can go to work in a suite without breaking a sweat, workout to my hearts content, hit every type of terrain and above all things soak in a LOT more scenery doing it with 3x the miles traveled in the same time. |
