stevo1 - Yep, not many people around here commute to work like me, although I do see a few here and there. There's a lot of leisurely cyclists in the area though. You can often see a swarm of 50-100 riders in my neighborhood. I've always been a car nut, and I'm an automotive engineer, but I've become very green minded in the last several years. Now I'm always looking for ways to conserve energy and help the environment. I hope I inspire others to do the same even if it's just a small change.

In theory, a 408 on 72 volts should top out mid 30's mph which is fine for me, but how is the acceleration?

The acceleration is good. It is not nearly as great as a 5303 motor, but it weighs a lot less, and sucks a lot less energy. I prefer the light weight and the range of the X4 series over the X5 series. All that extra power is dangerous for city riding. It should really only be used for off-road use. If you need more power, you ought to consider purchasing a used ICE motorcycle. If not that, you should buy a used older motorcycle and use the Crystalyte X6 series and build an electric motorcycle.
