Green Cycles commuter ebike
Hey guys, I was on digg and found this Green Cycles site. Their bike has a 500w brushless hub with a 36v/15ah lifepo4 battery. Overall this looks like a practical commuter with a good 40mile range. It doesn't have off-road capabilities but I think that's what's keeping the price low. What do you guys think?!

$2100 for a heavy 500W front hub, 8 speed. Rear cargo is a good attempt to a clean finished look, but it takes all the stow space.
For $2200, you can get the new Giant Twist, 18Ahr (v 15ahr) of Li-ion, a gear front hub (only 250W), front suspension and seat post, and a real range of 30-40 miles.

Looks like an excellent bike. The Giant twist with a 250W geared motor is loud and klunky along with having no power and lithium polymer batteries is a bad choice in my opinion. I read on engadget that there are many problems with the gears wearing out very quickly. I would stick with non explosive batteries like lifepo4 and a gearless motor.
Looks like a clean comfortable setup.

That's very similar to my bike, right down to the same cargo box for the battery pack and controller.
But mine's kewler.

The one thing I have tried and didn't care for with a front hub, is having it on a 700c wheel like that bike has. 26" wheel works better for me

Bikes with 700c wheels tends to have thinner tires than bikes with 26" wheels. I've always noticed it's nicer to ride with 700c wheels, the whole thing just feels a lot more efficient. I would assume the same is true of this electric bike, I mean, after all, it still is a bicycle at its roots, same circumstances.

It looks nice. I would want a test drive before purchasing...if at all possible.
