I bought a used E-bike. It's a Ezee (EVG ) for $150.00 . Probably about 3 years old. The seller told me it needs a new battery and was otherwise "dead". I noticed that when you turned the "ON" switch, the lights on the bike would momentarily flash and then immediately go "dead" again.

Otherwise, there was no sign of life at all. No lights, no horn, no motor, no bat reserve lights.....nothing.

I bought the bike, took it home and put it on the charger. It fully charged-up in about 4 hours (to 42 volts). It's still "dead" though.

So I bought a new lead-acid battery at "Batteries-Plus" (for $130.00). Nothing changed.....The bike refused to come alive.

The bike came here from Florida and had minor traces of surface rust. Otherwise there is no visible damage or faults.

I have not yet begun to tear into it (I have no wiring diagram or trouble-shooting guides). No dealers or repair shops here-abouts either.

Can anybody out there help me get this E-bike back on the road?

A separate issue would be slight traces of metallic copper powder around the 2 battery spring-loaded pair of connectors. I vaguely recall a forum posting somewhere some time ago that identified battery movement and bouncing about as a correctable problem. Now that I actually have an Ezee E-bike, I cannot find anything about solving that separate problem. Can anybody steer me to forum/discussion of that problem?

I always start with the simplest potential problems first when troubleshooting. Your batteries are in a battery box, right? If so, there probably is a fuse. Check the fuse to see if it blew to protect the system. If the fuse is alright, get a volt meter and check the readings on the controller and throttle. How does the hub motor look?

Thanks for your response.

I examined every square inch of the exterior of the bike and could not find a fuse. I have no idea what a fuse holder would look like on this model E-bike. The controller wiring is located inside some panels that would have to be removed to search further.

I don't have any wiring diagrams or other instructions for this E-bike. I don't know what the model number is either. The previous owner knew none of all that either.

What do you think should be my next step? I would like to avoid dissembling if possible.

Any further thoughts on this?

I think most ezee-built bikes have battery boxes (the conversion kits may have a bag for the battery). NYCE wheels sells a 30A glass fuse for the Ezee battery box. On your model, are the batteries stored in a battery box near the seat post? If so, examine the box carefully, you will have to open it to find the fuse. Hi,

I have a bike with an eZee kit and the same battery box as the one pictured above. You don't have to open the battery box to access the fuze. There ought to be a black screw on cap on the outside of the box opposite side to the on/off switch and charger port.

When my fuze blew no power went to the controller or cycle analyst so, based on your description of getting a few seconds of power before the unit shuts down, I very much doubt it's the fuze. More likely the battery is the problem.

Drop the fine folks at ebikes.ca a line. They know eZee products inside and out.

Thanks to those who offered advice about getting my eZee-bike back on the road.

The problem was solved when I noticed that the 36 volt battery spring-clips were not making contact at all with the battery. A couple spacers under the connector and the bike came alive.

(I remembered reading a posting some months before I got my E-bike, that covered this condition. I was never able to re-locate that posting and would really appreciate any help to find that forum which did have lots of additional info on eZee-bike wiring concerns).

So, I'm finally able to take it out for a test-drive. And it all worked beautifully!

Of course I still have questions about the "cruse-control" control, about why the tail-light comes on when the power is activated, about the "P-E" function, about reinforcing the kick-stand, about difficulty shifting through the 7 speeds, about why the "light" button won't depress and seems frozen, about etc., etc., etc.

But we'll get all that sorted out in good time.

So thanks again for your suggestions on trouble-shooting the main battery problem.
