Help me choose my components!
 

I haven't bought anything yet. I'm trying to set up my bike with enough juice to go 25-35 mph for 20-30 miles. Obviously faster and farther is better.

I already have the bike, and I have a budget of maybe $1200 dollars for the gadgets and labor to electrify it. I am thinking of using a geared 500w motor on the front wheel. I want to add as little weight as possible, and I don't want to change the handling of the bike much at all. I'm open to putting the motor on the back wheel. However, I have eight sprockets back there, and I haven't found many geared hub kits that have eight sprockets.

I was thinking of putting one battery on the bottom of the frame where the water bottle would go. Another (removable) battery would go in a saddle bag or mounted to the seat tube. I believe this would keep my center of gravity where it should be.

How should I accomplish this? I've never built an e-bike before.

It's the best of both world's, I've got assist when needed (on tour's) and can still have my ride light when I want to go FAST.....

A suspension front fork is usually not recommended for a front motor. Also be sure any seatpost rack can handle the weight of the battery.

The RST forks listed in the specs for your bike show that it is a cast aluminum fork.
Check the dropouts to see if they are aluminum or steel... with a magnet.
If they are aluminum, make sure you are using a torque arm on the dropouts to reinforce them.
If you don't you run a very significant risk of snapping the dropouts and spinning your motor axle.
i.e. ruined motor wiring and possible dental reconstruction surgery.

Only CRMO steel dropouts are suitable for hub motors without reinforcing the dropouts with a torque arm. Even then they are still recommended.

Please be aware that running your Ebike at speeds greater than 20mph is illegal according to most state and federal laws. At those speeds your ebike is reclassified as a scooter or motorcycle and would require licensing.
