Getting my 1st E-bike in a couple of days. What tires should I get?
 

I am pretty excited about getting this bike. I have limited funds so I could only afford a modest model and brand. The bike is a Coast Smart Ride. I purchased it with a 2yr. platinum service protection plan and 24/7 phone support.

Its a basic 24V lead acid set-up with a pedal assist mode and 250w motor. I like the simplicity of the bike and have worked with electric motors most of my life. I like looks of the frame and could always upgrade components in the future.

The bike will be used mostly on paved and gravel "rails to trails" terrain for pleasure and exercise.

My first question would be on what tires to get get. My first choices are the Schwalbe Big Apple (if it will fit) or the Marathon Plus. Any other recommendations are greatly appreciated!

The Big Apples are excellent as they prevent a lot of pounding on the hub motor and spokes. Another very good tire is the Maxxis Hookworm, which is fairly high pressure (85psi+), very durable and flat proof, low rolling resistance, and gives you quite a bit of cushion. More durable and flat-proof than a Big Apple, but not quite as cushy.

One can't go wrong with Schwalbe tires, but what I would recommend is to ride what comes with it and replace them with Schwalbes when they are dying.

I would not remove the fenders.

AllenG ~ Why not remove the fenders? I plan on replacing them with something different and I will not be using the bike in wet conditions.

The Big Apples are great on pavement, however, they may not be the best on trails.

I like the Schwalbe Marathons.

Thanks for the comments everyone! I have been riding the bike everyday since Wed. and am very satisfied so far but the stock tires ride very hard. I have been contemplating a few other tires and may go with a set of Geax Booze Lights Wire (2.3s) or possibly CST Cyclopes (2.4s). These tires are pretty well priced and could try a set right away.

I could not pass up the Cyclopes for 33 bucks a pair shipped.

Picked up a more comfortable seat as well.
