Panasonic Battery "shelf life"

Good morning from a "newbie"!!!
I wish to buy a replacement Panasonic battery for my Kalkhoff/Peugeot.
As they are so expensive ,is it possible to tell from the battery details, the date of production,as I read on a review last night that they can deteriorate while sitting in a shop, before purchase ?
Thanks for any response.

Amen Brother, when you buy a car battery the dates are stamped on a sticker, same goes with a pack of Duracell alkaline's & most other type s of batteries but when you plunk down 800 big ones for new a Lithium E-Bike batt. or 3 grand for a new E-Bike {which from my understanding lithium begin to die the day they are made** you have to take the manufactures word for it. I recently bought an E-Bike with a 14 AH & I asked if they were fresh batteries I believe I was told the truth because it seems to perform to spec as far as range goes, but for all i now it may only perform well for 6 months . Good question my Man, hopefully some of the E-Bike Sharpies here will shed some light on this subject..

Kalkhoff USA (in Portland, OR) keeps their older batteries in a temerature controlled room (cold, I think), so when you buy their web-specials (bikes from 09, 10, 11) the batteries are still in good shape. How good, who knows?

But they should be able to answer your questions before you order.

Thanks Scaliboy62.
The peugeot I bought as new in May but I know the seller had been trying to sell from at least Xmas 2011.
It was a competition win for him,so actual battery prod date is unknown unless the data on the battery holds the clues!
It's an 8Ah battery which ought to cover 60 kms,yet after maybe 12kms, the battery power(on highest setting) drops into middle light position,so I'm unsure whether each light goes out after similar distance.
The Kalkhoff (10Ah ) was only bought second hand on Saturday, supposedly 3 yrs old(waiting for Derby Cycles to verify).
After mending a puncture,I tried it out today & with a full charge to empty, only covered around 7 miles.
I've bought an 8Ah today from Germany(much cheaper than UK) checked the prodn date ( March/April this year) with 2 yr warranty. So waiting for DHL to deliver !
