I just found out about the Copenhagen wheel, anyone tried it out?
 

Forgive me if this has been beat to death, just curious. I just got back into riding and NEED the workout anyway.

It's funny how you can never seem to be able to order that wheel. It's always in Pre-order status?

Does anyone have an update on the Copenhagen wheel?

At least that one seems to be real. Not the fastest thing in the world though.

I like the Copenhagen wheel's neat integration. Several friends are interested also. Last year, two of them had actually kicked around the idea of putting a deposit down on the wheels.

But over the past six months or more, I have not heard any news from that company. That's why I'm asking you guys about it.

Last I heard, it doesn't exist (although its been "almost" ready for years).

Its like saying I heard about Santa Claus. I hear rumors, but no one has made an actual sighting. Kickstarters are like that.

If you like that idea, get a FlyKly, at least they have a product.

I have a friend that has had a deposit in for nearly two years. Still waiting. Has anyone yet received one to give us feedback?

Vaporware,... I wanted one myself, and I'm glad I didn't pony up the cash. Tell your friend to get their money back.

A co-worker just got hers and she likes it a lot. Heavy son of a ***** though.

Flykly was a bit lighter I believe. their web page looks kinda flakey though, but electric bike review did a decent review of it a while back.

Sounds like a great product, now that it has started to ship, for people that don't like to take a wrench and a soldering iron to build an ebike. I hope to see a lot more ebikes out there besides mine, and if this gets more people riding them, great. Edit. Does look a bit dorky though,

Don't forget the monthly costs of a smart phone to run the controls, although I suppose a small android tablet will work?

I would cross-shop the 350W Bionix system against this. Not quite as simple to install but it's a very responsive system with torque sensing built into the hub motor. I'm a little skeptical that building a battery into the Copenhagen Wheel can be good for its longevity.

No, I would never consider any sort of bike tech like that which relies solely on a smart phone for control. That seems like a very risky idea.

+1 with Dunbar; internal temperatures of 100C+ (212F+) are fine for hub motors, but wouldn't want a battery exposed to that heat.

The problem with the Copenhagen wheel was discussed before. You can't recharge the wheel at work since it does not have a removable battery. Therefore, your trip has to be less than 15 miles or you'll run out of energy. Maybe if they have a quick release, that would enable you to remove the wheel to recharge in the office.

Since the bike does not come with a controller, you'll have to use your cell phone. That's not a good idea because cell phones don't work well in very cold weather and freezing up. Plus, most are not weather resistant and do you really want to connect your $600,00 dollar Iphone on that plastic handlebar lock?

So, what does your needs have to do with the needs of others? It wouldn't work for you, but you're not the only person who might consider it. I'd say, for a person desiring an all-in-one solution, it's still a viable option. I have nowhere to leave my bike outside at work, and at home my bikes all get brought inside my house. Charging the wheel indoors is a nonissue. And for the average commuter, 15 miles is more than adequate for a 1 way trip.

As for using a cellphone, so what? Modern cellphones/smartphones work decently well for this purpose. The cold isn't all that much of an issue. I use my Samsung Galaxy S6 Active in inclement/cold weather without problems. And if you get a solid phone holder for the handlebars you you'll be just fine. Besides, if you use a phone to help control the functions of the wheel, why can't you just place it inside your pocket, or a bag? And a large percentage of the phones available now are highly water resistant. I would know,...I'm a cellphone/smartphone nerd. LOL!!!

The main issue most had was this being in development for years, with backers being really pissed off. The wheels specs and design are quite good. For my liking that is,...YMMV.

I think it's kinda cool, but 17 pounds all jammed into that rear wheel is going to create a very unbalanced bike. There are plenty of lighter, better-balanced systems with similar range. I'm not sure there's much of a market for this.

I'm willing to see what happens with it. I do think the FlyKly is a better option, but would luv if it was able to be produced to accommodate more than single speed. At least this funky wheel can do a cassette,...

As someone pointed out, the Flykly is no longer for sale! The wheel was reviewed and it had problems dropping the Bluetooth connection with the cell phone.

I suspect the Copenhagen wheel could very well suffer this problem because Bluetooth does not handle motion very well.

My needs? I didn't say this was going to be my next purchase.

The issues I stated were from those on the e-bike forum who made a legitimate critique of the wheel.

I mentioned the Flykly was no longer available for sale. A shame really,... As for the Bluetooth issue, the problem was related to using the wrong app to connect to the Flykly. After the appropriate app was used, the connection issues were resolved.
