Comfortable e-bike for long rides
 

My sons and I plan to ride across Nevada on Highway 50. They will use road bikes but I am 72 and while I do ride metric half centuries on my regular bike (Trek 7.5 hybrid), we will be going about 70 miles per day with c. 2,500 ascent per day. Thus an e-bike. I currently have a BH Easy Motion neo racer but the ride is harsh. Any recommendation on a more comfortable ebike? Up to $3500? Pedal assist is necessary as I want to do a lot of biking. I do figure I will need two batteries.

Is your Trek hybrid not comfortable enough and you want a different bike? Or do you think you need a different bike because you want E-Assist? You can just get a kit for the Trek like BionX or Falco, to put on your Trek... I have a BionX kit and have used it to go on 2 E-Assisted trips, 650KMs and 850KMs, can easily do 100KMs on a charge using it at level 1-Assist... :thumb: The wife also has a BionX on her bike, a Trek 8.5 DS and just loves it, she too can get 100KMs per charge on our last trip to Jasper using it whenever she feels like some Assist and I suspect she uses it more than I do... :innocent:

I always thought and from reviews they are comfortable?
What do you mean harsh?
Is it jerky, noisy, etc.?
In my book ebike must be silent, zero noise, so I would never choose gear hub or BB middle drive.
My point is in many parks, pathways motorized vehicles are prohibited and the noise is real giveaway - you are on motorized ride!
But as you probably know cheap , primitive direct drive gearless brushless hubs can also whine like crazy and due to cheap controller jerk you - very annoying.
The only ebike drive I would recommend is FALCO , non-China edrive , designed in USA with 5-year warranty /!!!!/
Just Google FALCO, and you will see real silent, powerful, intelligent system.
Of course BIONX is obvious choice , used on many European and NAmerican ebikes. It is intelligent computerized edrive , great for exercise, very universal.

Have you considered adding a Thudbuster seat and then maybe a suspension fork (apparently there are new models made for cross bikes); it's unlikely (from my limited experience with ebikes) to dampen the ride of a necessarily heavier eplatform without bigger tires or suspension. The other possible alternative is a light friction drive system (maybe only use it on hills).

I have a BH Motion Neo Volt which is a 20" wheel folder and very comfortable but the frame is as stiff as a wet noodle. Not good for descending hills. I had a quick look at the specs of the BH Easy Motion neo racer and on Paper I agree that it wouldn't be comfortable with its 74 degree seat tube angle (this the the older model that's white). They just brought out a newer model which is black and has a 73 degree seat tube angle which is better.

Anyway, while I was perusing the BH website I saw this model, Easy Motion - Bosch Cross which has a Bosch centre drive in it. This would be better for lots of climbing and the bike would be more comfortable to ride. Its a little above your budget though at $4000 list.
