CatEye Strada Speed/Cadence Sensor Issues
 

I installed a CatEye 410DW on my wife's bike last year and it came with this sensor. I followed the instructions for mounting the magnet to the crank arm (rear mount sensor) but it keeps sliding. The tape does not hold up in the heat. Any hot tips for keeping the magnet in place? I thought about using some JB Weld to adhere it to the crank arm. Any tips or tricks would be appreciated!

Provided that her pedal spindles are steel, just switch to a 1/2" x 1/8" neodymium magnet stuck to the end of the spindle. The cadence sensor for my Garmin came with the crankarm-mounted magnet, I never even took it out of the plastic. Been using the rare earth magnet on the end of the spindle as long as I've been measuring cadence.

I agree with DrIsotope entirely on the neodymium magnet on the spindle for cadence sensing. I also use an extra neodymium magnet on my spoke magnet for more reliable speed sensing.

I also have a Cateye device and it works well.

One dumb queton though....this is a speed and cadence sensor so I will need to slide the sensor down the chain stay to align the magnet and sensor. This will move the speed sensor closer to the hub. This doesn't matter right?

Align the cadence side with the magnet on the spindle and move the spoke magnet to align with the speed side of the sensor. I also use a magnet on the end of my spindle. Have been for years and it's never fallen off.

Thanks again. I bought the magnet from Home Depot yesterday, stuck it to the end of the spindle and things worked fine before I even moved the sensor on the chain stay. The magnet is mis aligned with the sensor by about 1/2" and it still picks up. Will move the sensor and magnet on the rim tonight to get everything correctly aligned.
