I use these..Have four of them as I had 5 bikes.

Amazon.com : 900lm Lumen LED Cycling Bicycle Bike Waterproof T6 Headlight Headlamp Kit Set : Sports & Outdoors

I up graded to a 8 Cell 1865 battery pack for night centuries.

https://www.fasttech.com/products/0/...0-battery-pack

gives me 12 hours run time on the low setting.

+1 on the light. It's really hard to find something that has that kind of output for that cheap. It doesn't put out 900 lm...Cree only rates the T6 at 700 max...but that's a quibble.

And I, too, have an upgraded battery but I use a 26650 pack. About the same Ah as the 8 pack but it has a smaller size.

I have 3 lights. Two of them I just swap them from bike to bike and the third in on my helmet. I also changed out the o-ring mounts for Marwi mounts that are more solid. Here's how to do it and he sells the parts here

Cree makes the LEDs, not the whole light device. Many bicycle lights use Cree LEDs. Most do not have Cree in the model name.

Doooode... I've been looking at the MagicShine lights (and all the similar ones online) but the rubber-band mount has turned me off. This is exactly what I was looking for. I bow and kiss your feet.

I've 3d printed some magicshine mounts, there are designs already up on thingiverse.

I agree with the above, though I would also add that I prefer to add in a $5 lens that's available on ebay and amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004WLCLQY

If you start with a light that has smooth reflector instead of the orange peel one, it'll be spotty, then add this lens to widen the beam and you have a good alternative to a true shaped beam. The lights tend to put way too much light right in the center, way more than you need. This lens spreads that out a bit and improves the amount of light that's usable without redirecting it into driver's eyes.

Glad to help. If you (or anyone) is looking for an extension mount for the lights and you have a 4 bolt faceplate, I'd suggest this mount. It's the best light mount for a handlebar I've ever found.

Similar quality/price rear light

Any recommendations for a similar quality/price rear light? I've picked up one of these compact LED headlights from Amazon, but haven't seen a corresponding option for a taillight. Any suggestions? Bonus if they can both be run from the same battery pack.

Cygolite Hotshot. 2W. A little more expensive but great. Built-in lithium battery with USB charging port which is an advantage - you don't loose your tail light if you run down your main battery.

There are tail lights that run off the same battery pack as many of the MagicShine and similar head lights.

An alternative, like the Hotshot mentioned by Drew, is the Performance Bike store brand Axiom Pulse 60 LED Tail Light. It's currently on sale for $29.99, or $26.99 if you count the Team Performance credit towards a future purchase.

+1 for the cygolight tail light, love mine. Best under $30 ive spent on a tail light. I use a rack mount with it.

I run a more expensive light because my commuting/pavement etc bike gets rained on and such, dont trust pack waterproofing. Have a case for 18650s that works good too, but I've gotten pretty attached to my fenix bc30r. With having probably 10 USB chargers around my house I can just plug it into closest one. Or charge at work if needed. Also unlike the old mj808 clone, I dont get pissed off drivers due to the blinding glare. And its on a slide mount stock.

My trail bike on the other hand, whole different story. Lights were cheaper and put out more light. I dont buy lights off amazon anymore only because 99% of the cheaper lights are all cool white and i went over to the neutral white. Sadly all have the band mounts, even the ones I have, so ordered custom gopro adapters.

That's such a great idea! I will be buying that someday.
