wahoo
Will the Wahoo Tickr HR pair with my Garmin 500 Edge. I'm really tired of changing out the straps on the Garmin. I wash mine after every ride and machine wash once a week and the most I'll get out of the strap is 6 months. I just washed the strap and changed the battery and it still doesn't work.
I read some of the post on the Wahoo, but I'm in kind of a hurry and thought I would post the question here to get some input. Thanks I just read where some people were having a problem pairing it with the Garmin 1000. |
hi
in my quest for learning about these devices i've come across this, maybe it will help you. i'm new to cycling and found this guys site seems to be pretty good info. hope it helps. Hands on with Wahoo Fitness TICKR, TICKR RUN, and TICKR X | DC Rainmaker A look at the new Polar Beat Bluetooth Smart app with H7 Heart Rate Strap | DC Rainmaker |
Thanks Rob, I'm aware of the rainman, but I was looking for someone thats been using the Wahoo. Thanks for the reply.
The way it looks, nobody is using it. |
ok, i'll be watching this post as well since it's on my wish list, just can't decide between the wahoo or polar.

I use the Wahoo TICKR and have been doing so for over a year. I've never had an issue with the device itself. It has worked flawlessly for me and I ride between 3-4 hours/day. I can't say if it has connection issues with the Garmin 1000, but my riding buddy used one with his Garmin 800 and never had a problem. I use mine connected to my iPhone via Bluetooth but when the Ant+ bridge on my Wahoo RFLKT+ was working, I did connect it on several occasions via Ant+ and had no problems. However, that won't help answer your connection question with the 1000. It would be nice if Garmin came out of the dark ages and offered Bluetooth, along with Ant+ connections, to their computers.

Thanks again. |
Many are doing away with straps altogether and switching to optical sensors on the wrist. I am considering this.

Yes!
And no, pairing it has been no problem. It's a standard ANT+ device, even though it also has Bluetooth. |

Do your research before you purchase one. While they are certainly more comfortable than a chest strap, there are many published reports about their accuracy. Unlike the chest straps that use transthoracic conductivity (as does an EKG) to detect a heart rate, the optical sensors use capillary refill time (as does a pulse oxcimeter) to detect a pulse rate. There are too many variables that can cause inaccurate capillary refill detection during exercise.
Anyhow thanks for the replies everybody. |
i read this article, Scosche RHYTHM+ Dual ANT+/Bluetooth Smart Optical HR Band In-Depth Review | DC Rainmaker and was / am considering. i don't want a watch type around the wrist as i hate watches. not sure how i'll feel with a chest strap or this arm band but i'm weighting my options moving slow on a purchase and value the feedback from more experienced users so thanks for the input guys.

Wahoo can do ANT+ and BT. Polar can only do BT.

I have a tickr and have never bothered to pair it with my garmin 800, since I only use it on my trainer. I will eventually try it with the garmin.

thanks chong67, that's a good deal

I use the Wahoo TickR and am happy with it. It paired up almost by itself to my Garmin 800 and my phone. The strap is comfortable and gives me no issues. I bought it new from Wahoo directly for $40.
I first bought a Polar and could never get it to pair up, so I returned it. |
Several companies have made advances to the point where optical sensors are very close to chest straps in accuracy. Clearly accurate enough for sports training if not a clinical environment.
I am considering the Scosche RHYTHM+ which uses the MIO sensors. Very well reviewed as far back as 2014 and very accurate compared to straps. Scosche RHYTHM+ Dual ANT+/Bluetooth Smart Optical HR Band In-Depth Review | DC Rainmaker -Tim- |

It's just a HR strap, if the thing it connects to supports Strava then it will. Almost everything links to Strava, so the answer to your question is almost certainly yes.

Not so with Wahoo Cadence and Speed sensor using the BT that is on Runtastic app. I never work for me. |

Which sensor? The BlueSC or the magnetless versions. I've never used the Runtastic app, but they work fine with Strava and Cyclemeter, and I'd be surprised if they don't work with Runtastic.
I have MapMyRide and Strava on my phone, but I didnt try to connect on the Wahoo magnetless cadence sensor. |

Thanks I just read where some people were having a problem pairing it with the Garmin 1000. To prolong the life of your heart rate monitor, rinse the strap after every use. Hand wash the strap in cold water with a mild detergent after every five uses. Do not put the strap in a washing machine or a dryer. My first strap lasted over two years before I had any issues with it. |
