Alternative to GoPro Studio?

I don't need advanced effects.

Just want to be able to fade in and out, trim and combine clips, some background music and titles.

What are the alternatives for Windows?

Free would be best.

Not free, but cheap. I use Sony Movie Studio Platinum. Does pretty much everything for $50. At some point I just get sick of having to deal with cheap stuff. $50 is chicken feed in this market.

For free stuff, I use AVIDemux. It only does cuts and reencoding, but it's a handy tool to have around. Especially if you have video formats that your regular editor can't handle, it can convert them.

Thanks for the suggestion but I'm not paying $50 for something I'm going to use once or twice per year.

VSDC worked well once I figured it out.

I'd probably stick with the free gopro option on Windows, mostly because I'm not aware of much free/good editing software.

Now for Mac, iMovie does a pretty good job.

GoPro Studio is digital dog poo, when it runs.

Windows Movie Maker, which reportedly also runs on Windows 10.

Garmin's Virb Edit software may have an Edge over GoPro.

I'm using VSDC free video editor about half a year, since their significant upgrade. Trim/fade in - out/ mask/ blending modes/ background music go for free, and I really can't understand why pay for these basic features. I'm not touching upon pro editors like Adobe, they're without a rival.

Sony movie studio is crap, it auto samples the video so you lose quality after you export it unless you go in each clip and turn it off.

Freemake is good for quick cuts. No frills. Does a good job of re-encoding. Be careful when installing Freemake. While the program itself is fine, the installer comes bundled with a crapware installer. Don't go on autopilot during the installation -- be sure to reject any extras.

I'm still trying to find a video equivalent to mp3DirectCut, which is non-lossy. No luck yet. The alternatives I've found are not user friendly.

Yes, that's the key...when it runs.

It does. Works just fine on my W10 machine.

This!!

I use Freemake to "assemble" all the segments from my Hero4 Session. Great program indeed, but oy vey, the headaches I had trying to delete some of the programs the installation put on my computer. If anyone is thinking of downloading and installing this program, definitely do the custom installation!!

:)

Do the custom install with all software. Never do the generic install.
