Dual Heart Rate Display - Does it exist?
I'm cross-posting this on Tandems as well since it probably makes more sense there, but I was curious if anyone came across a bike computer (or any sport that might be adapted to such) that had the ability to display two independent heart rates?
I've searched online a bit to no avail. It's pretty common for sporty tandem teams to run two computers so each rider can see their heart-rate, and sometimes I've seen both mounted in front of one rider so that rider can best judge overall team effort and encourage the other (or perhaps chastise the other for slacking, ha!). :D Anyway, if anyone has any ideas about how to get a single device to display heart-rate from two separate transmitters simultaneously, I'd appreciate it! Thanks. |
Does it have to be a single device? I'm not sure whether that's available or not.
ANT+ will be your friend because it's more like a radio broadcast and BT is more like a phone call. If you run Garmins (watches or bike computers) you can each use them to see your own heart rate, and you can send each other a Live Track session which will show the other rider's HR on your phone. Normally a power meter is a better (but hideously more expensive) way to judge effort but I'm not sure how that would work on a tandem. |

I don't know if this will work and I've never tried it but if you have Bluetooth HRMs, you can try connecting them to a smartphone and see if the cycling app on the phone will display both rates or just one. I know that Cyclemeter (iPhone only) will allow me to connect more than one like sensor but I don't know if it displays data for both or not since I've never had the need to use more than one HRM.

Great info. I do have an iPhone or two, but I was hoping for one device. This is great food for thought though. Appreciate it. Thanks again guys.
