Thanks @chong67!

I've bought cameras and lenses from B&H but will wait for REI to get it for their excellent return policy and dividend. I wouldn't buy a new Garmin from anyone who doesn't have a long and generous return period.

The 5 is shipping now. Garmin is only sending to small store. You have to call around to find one. This is their way of testing it out before they mass produce and ship to big retails. They have odd way of doing things with new products.

Which version did you get, @chong67?

How's the battery life?

What do you think of the way training load is implemented?

I got the regular 5 Sapphire.

The battery life is unbelievable. 1% every 6 hr, if I dont do anything. Battery life is excellent.

It got so many things. It try to learn from you and its almost like a personal trainer.

I still dont know what I am doing, but here is a full review:

https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2017/03/...5x-review.html

Eventually I am selling my Edge 520 and use this for every exercise.

Turn by turn navigation

My bike club regularly post rides on Ride With GPS and my wife uploads them to her Edge device for notification of upcoming turns. I used a Fenix 2 to a long time and I loved being able to use it for skiing, hiking, running and cycling but sadly didn't support turn by turn navigation or turn notifications. The battery on my watch died and I need a replacement. Given the price hike for the new Fenix watches I'm interested to know how the turn by turn capabilities of the Fenix 3 and Fenix 5 compare to Edge devices. The DC Rainmake hands-on and full product review seem to indicate that turn by turn is only available on the 5X; is this correct?

My F5X shipped last night. It's coming from Pacific, WA, so I'm hoping it'll arrive tomorrow.

I ordered a 5s. I will have it Thursday. I use a Garmin Edge 800 on my bicycle with the old magnet type speed and cadence sensor. I also have the old Garmin Heart Rate Strap. I suspect I can't pair the sensors to both the Edge and the 5s. I eventually will get the new heart rate strap. Any recommendations on using the 5s and the Edge together on my rides?

Bikes: This list got too long: several ‘bents, an urban utility e-bike, and a dahon D7 that my daughter has absconded with.

I was just reading DC on this one. The 5s looks the best because its size would allow it to be used as a regular watch. However, without maps I would still want my 810.

Of course the chest strap will pair to your F5s and 800 at the same time. That's one of the beautiful things about ANT+ over BT.

I do this regularly. Still have my 800 and still use it to show my power during intervals.

I received my 5s today. The first impression is a huge disappointment. I ordered a Sapphire Champagne/Suede. It is mostly white rather than Champagne. I would perter Champagne, which would look more subdued and fashionable. It syncs well with my phone, but it is too complicated to get it to do simple things.

There is nothing intuitive about its operation. It would be great if I could customize it from my smartphone.

What are you trying to get it to do? Might be able to offer some advice.

I have figured out most of what I want to do. It takes practice. I need to repeat various operations to easily remember the function of each button.

I am liking it better today, but I am frustrated that it won't stay connected to my phone. If it disconnects, it is difficult to get it to re-connect. I never had any problem with my Microsoft Band 2 staying connected or re-connecting. To get it to reconnect I need to reboot my phone or to delete the fenix 5s and pair and connect again.

I also don't get notifications when it is connected. When I checked the settings, notifications appear to be enabled. I did get notifications for a brief period yesterday.

Thanks for your offer to help.

I think one of the reasons I initially found using the 5s to be frustrating is the lack of a touch screen. My Microsoft Band 2 has a touch screen There are only 2 buttons. You can do most everything with the touch screen.

My Fenix 5s connects via WiFi to my router, but Garmin Connect on my laptop indicates that there is no connection. We pay extra for WiFi and get no value from it.

The Bluetooth won't connect automatically. I don't get notifications on the Fenix 5s. I have ensured that notifications are enabled and the "do not disturb" is disabled. This is very frustrating.

$700 is a lot to pay for a lack of functionality.

The ant+ is the only connectivity that functions flawlessly.

I had my Fenix 3hr from REi for just over a year. For the past coupLe of months, I have been back and forth with support regarding my altimeter issue. Garmin told me yesterday to send them my watch and they would send me a replacement that comes with a 90 day warranty. I decide to to see what REI could do for me. I explained it all, they gave me a full refund, and I bought myself the 5 Sapphire with metal band. Hopefully, within a week I will have it on my wrist.
When I bought the 3, it replaced all my other watches (dress, everyday, sport, etc). I had different bands for different occasions. The 5 will be even better for me. Can't wait!
