charging a Garmin Touring Plus

I've been using my computer port to charge my Garmin. In a week I'll be away and won't have the computer to charge with:

1) Do I "have" to use a Garmin charger? (expensive)

2) Is there an acceptable universal charger I can us? (less expensive)

3) If so, what charger would you recommend?

Thanks Tony

I use an older version of this. I've used it on an Edge 800, a Fenix 3, and a Fenix 5 (all Garmin). It's very cheap and light weight.

Any modern cell phone charger will work, but you need an older mini-USB cable, not the newer micro-USB or USB-C styles. I advise a name-brand charger that is UL-listed, not a generic charger that may short circuit.

Seattle Forrest, The Anker appears to be a nice charger. I will likely buy it locally as I'm limited on time...probably Best Buy.

johnny, I agree, a name brand with UL is a must.

This is a good point.

While I have the Garmin Edge 500, and like it very much.

I have the NiteRider MiNewt 600, and the NiteRider Lumina 750. Both are powerful headlights.

I went to the bike store the other day. This was after noticing that the Lumina 750 would use the same cable as the MiNewt 600 to charge. That is when the staff member at the bike store told me, the connection for my MiNewt 600 is being done away with. The connection for my Lumina 750 is becoming the standard.

I can charge my MiNewt 600 with a standard peripheral USB Mini-b cable connected to my computer.

But to charge my Lumina 750, I have to use the charger for my cellphone. Because I don't have a peripheral Micro USB-b cable.
