Looking for a mini, lightweight tripod
I'm looking for a mini, lightweight tripod.
It will not support a heavier DSLR but only a point and shoot Olympus TG-5. It does not have to extend up very high. The Joby Gorillapod looks interesting as does the Ultrapod Grip but am wondering if there is anything similar I should be looking at. I'll be packing this in a small frame back and space is at a premium. Weight is also a concern. -Tim- |
I have some of the earlier version ultrapods, works well but it is quite short.

I carry Ultrapod II. Gorillapods were too messy in practice - poor sturdiness per weight. When I combine it with a selfie stick and a light camera I actually get close to a full size tripod, provided it there is no wind or other obstacles.

The Gorillapod will be more versatile and easier to level the camera on uneven surfaces. I had a lighter duty Vivitar mini tripod with similar bendable legs and it was very handy with my smaller P&S cameras. Only problem was the simple non-articulating head broke, but it lasted at least 10 years. It was much more cheaply made than the Gorillapod.

Thanks guys. I ordered both theUultrapod and Gorillapod.
They were cheap enough, under $20 each and I can give either or both of them away if I don't like it. The idea of strapping the thing to a tree or fence post has me stoked. Why didn't I think of that? :foo: -Tim- |
