Best camera?
I'm in the market for a camera since I realized how beneficial one could have been in my first accident last year. I've been looking around for the past couple of months and while I would really like the Everysight Raptor glasses, I just can't justify the price. I keep coming back to the Cycliq Fly 12 but what other options are there?
My main concern is having a long recording time for 2+ hours of riding but video quality/stability is also important to make out as much detail as possible. I'm also looking to keep the price below $200. |
Some of the $50 Chinese video cameras you see on Amazon or EBay have surprisingly good video quality. You will need to hook up some kind of external battery pack if you want 2+ hour battery life.
|
From what I've read, the Yi 4k fits the bill. It is under $200, does 4k/30fps, has EIS (below 4k, but is it actually necessary for safety cam?) and battery life is supposed to be 2 hours. Alternatives look to be the SJCam SJ7 and ThiEYE T5 Edge.

Look into the Mobius cameras. They aren't bad. The super cheap auction site mini cameras aren't worth it, IMHO.

Best, Leica?
(glad i don't commute where you feel a need for a camera to bring, post collision, to the emergency room) |
Ion Speed Pro. Check Amazon. Usually available for around $60. At that price you could get two for your stated $200 budget, and run 'em facing front and rear.
Weatherproof as-is. Simple to operate. Durable. Reliable (although picky about media cards -- any problems I've had were resolved by switching to another media card). I've had one for almost two years and use it on almost every ride. Runs about 90 minutes per charge and can be hooked to an external battery, although this requires removing the weatherproof rear cap. I use it mounted to the stem on my road bike, and helmet on my hybrid and errand bikes. |
I use a Garmin Vibe with a helmet mount and does the job well with 1080p resolution.
|
I use a Garmin Virb Ultra 30 with a 128GB SD card.
Connect the camera to a powerbank, and you can video approx 17hrs before the card is full and starts rewriting from the begining amazing camera and for cycling, it's beter than the new GoPro on the rear, I use the Cycliq Fly 6 .... |
