Any ideas how to secure this light to my bag?
 

This has bounced off my Ortlieb saddle bag twice now. Luckily, it happened on asphalt and I heard it bounce and was able to stop and retrieve. I included the second picture to show the type of webbing I attach it to. I ride lots, so this needs charging once a week at least, so hoping not to have anything too cumbersome to get on/off. I've been futzing with it for a bit, can't find a way to make either a rubber band or a wire tie from a loaf of bread work.The material on the bag isn't thick enough for the light to really get purchase and stay put.

what part is coming off the bike..the entire light plus portion through the fabric slits?

Did any other mounts come with your light? When I do not use a rack mounted light (e.g. no rack on bike), I either mount the light on seatpost or on the seatstay. That way I can make sure my light is carefully aimed straight back where the eyes of the drivers behind me will be.

Yes - that's right, the thing is coming unclipped for lack of a better way to put it.

My current idea to try next is to use some electrical tape to wrap around the fabric to give the light something more to bite.

I should also mention this is a backup light - my primary is run off my dynamo. But I've been spending lots of time pre-dawn on the road and like to have it on.

I have used 2 solutions for the same thing.
1. Put a rubber and around the bottom which goes around the light.
2. Drill a hole in the bottom of the clip and use a zip tie to secure it to a lower slot. You have to cut the zip tie to remove.

Inelegant, but you could make a pouch out of thick clear flexible plastic and Gorilla tape, and attach the pouch semi-permanently to the bag. Then just drop the light in the pouch.

Try drilling or punching a couple holes in the bag on either side of the slots and pull a zip tie through tight. You don’t have to do a crude,
off-center job like I did, but it’s covered when the light is clipped on.

I have a hotshot and had the same problem. Solved by taking one of those curly wire wrist thingies, attaching light, then coming under and into clip first, then twist and wrap, going outside of clip (but not occluding the light) two or three times till tight.

My seat post trailer mount hits my seat bag and has knocked off my beloved cygolite ( retrieved) upon occasion
best light I've owned. Clip on the lite is pretty decent.
The zip ties are good , but think tether as backup.
You can also zip tie a trimmed rack mount or even web strap to the bag,
if the other ways are inelegant and you do not sew.
What do I know, my watch is hot glued to my wrist, currently

My only two recommendation s I can thing of is use a zip tie on the bottom part of the bracket and the light preventing the light from coming off and can still be recharged from underneath. Or install a bracket that connects to the rear triangle of bike frame and keep the light there and just remove it when you park. Cygolight does make a bracket for that light that fits there.

I had that problem with my hotshot on a bag with a thin fabric loop to attach it to. Lost the light and had to replace it. My solution was to take a small strip of gaffers tape and wrap it around the the fabric loop a few times to thicken it up. The new light stayed on fine. Duct tape would work.

I highly recommend 1) using as much aux light in the daylight as you can afford and only use your dyno light when it’s dark out so as to not dazzle drivers’ eyes 2) just mount it to your helmet with zip ties.
