Chevrons stopped showing on Wahoo Elemnt route map

Hello to all you Wahooligans,

For the first time since originally buying my Wahoo Elemnt bike computer, when I went cycling yesterday, the black chevrons which show the route ahead were completely missing from the loaded map. I create routes in RideWithGPS so turn by turn was working, but not the route ahead chevron feature, which I rely heavily upon when following a route.

I've deleted / reinstalled the Elemnt companion app and selected a different route from the one I took yesterday, but still those chevrons are missing from the map.

Any help out there?

Many thanks.

Lightbulb Remedy To Missing Chevrons

My Elemnt is 5 y/o and wasn't showing the chevrons either at the beginning of my outdoor season in April. My solution was to go through the Factory Reset procedure on my Elemnt and then re-pair to phone and sensors & download routes again. This seemed to do the trick. The maps and chevrons look a little different so I'm guessing that there was a firmware upgrade which my existing downloaded routes didn't support.
Anyway, I'm back up and following my planned routes again. Hoping this works for anybody else who's having the problem.

I think this is due, primarily, to GPS quality issues, and perhaps ELMNT processing speed. The arrows are location relevant, so unit GPS, or if connected to app, phone GPS. I mean, I had it happen a couple-or-three times on my original Bolt, but the problem always rectified itself later on during the same ride. I’ve never experienced it as on ongoing problem, but of course users in areas with consistent location accuracy problems would.

The track files downloaded to the units have coordinates and timestamps for each point. That is, the direction is inherent to the data in the file. It doesn't require GPS at all.

oh yes, you’re right, my mistake. I was confused, thinking the arrows were for heading, but no, they’re the route. I don’t use routing often, but thanks for the correction.

I wonder if my issue, which manifests the same as loss of route, is the same as the OP’s? I was out in the boonies both times I recall the route indicators dropping out, and both times out of mobile service. I don’t recall if I was connected Bolt to app, but do recall both times I missed a turn, so maybe the route loss was to do with the app being offline and unable to reroute. Does the OP’s ELEMNT do onboard nav (i.e. TbT, rerouting)?

People think they're escaping Garmin, it's out of the frying pan and into the fire.

(Your heading, of course, is independent from the route.)

Even if the device couldn't reroute, hiding the chevrons would be pretty unhelpful. The Wahoo units work without mobile*. Dropping the chevrons as a result of being out of mobile service would be awful.

* Some features might require mobile but not "normal" navigation.
