Wahoo Elemnt Roam (gen 1) broken, in a charging loop.
Hey all.
I swear I've looked all over the web for an answer to this problem, not only is there no answer, there is no accurate description of my problem, so I come here.
Here's the deal. I just got a Roam from a mate that he hasn't used all year. So the battery is dead as hell. I plug it in to charge it, and this happens:
- leftmost light on the upper LED flashes once, screen turns on.
- a sweep reveal crosses the screen left to right, revealing the charging icon.
- the charging icon remains for a few seconds, the led backlight comes on
- black screen.
- a few moments later the loop starts again.
* If I hold the power button, it boots to the wahoo banner instead of the charging icon, but after a few seconds it just switches off as described above.
NOTE:
- It never boots up, so I CAN'T HOLD POWER+RIGHT PAGE BUTTON.
- i charge it for an hour from the wall like that suggest on their website and hold the power for 10 seconds: nothing.
- I don't know if my power button is busted, but I press it from all manner of angles to no avail.
Has ANYONE got the answer to this? I promise I've looked at all the forum posts and help pages Google spits at me. Most of the solutions are either for screen freeze, or don't work (charging for an hour)
Thanks

switch to a different cable & wall charger. Let it stay plugged in without being tampered with for at least a few hours. If it does not change anything, it is in my opinion, a faulty unit.

Wahoo Elemnt Roam (gen 1) broken, in a charging loop.
If he stored it with a discharged battery cell, further self-discharge in storage could have depleted it below 2.5V. Below that point, protection circuitry does its job by preventing it from being recharged due to safety concerns raised due to possible chemical battery damage.
Did you try letting it sit on the charger a bit longer as Troul suggested?

When is a brick, not a brick!
On the couple occasions I’ve needed Wahoo support they have been great.
Worth giving them a try if longer charging doesn’t fix the issue.
on a side note, the USB charging brick that comes with some phones provide too little current for items other than your phone.
The 5V 1A ones can be an issue. Look for a 5V 2.4A version.

Leave it plugged in for a day and if no fix then call Wahoo support. It might be able to get a micro-charge each cycle and enough of them will get it over the low voltage hump.
