it had a learn button & was newer than '98. Genie just sucks. You can hack it to open it easier than you can setup a remote.

Quick update: Still can't pair the Doormate with my Genie 3024. Just to make sure the unit works, I tried pairing it with my son's Chamberlain opener and it paired immediately
I have both an email and a voice message in at the company and have yet to hear a word. Crickets...
Edit: See update below

Quick Update: The owner called and said they found out that some Genie openers wouldn't pair and he was very apologetic. The good news is that despite absolutely no cooperation from Genie, they did manage to hack the code and have just come out with a remote that has been tested specifically with my opener. The updated version is on the way and don't bother to send the other one back.
Shipping and tracking info just came through.

Will do.
The guy was telling me that they didn’t until last December that my series didn’t work. Genie doesn’t want to help anybody so they bought a unit like mine and rebuilt the remote until they could make it work.

Genie is awful, they just laughed at me when there was a problem with my opener and I suggested it should be covered under the lifetime warranty. I ended up with a Chamberlain. They would probably laugh at me about warranty too, but I knew it was supposed to be put in by a dealer when I bought it off of amazon.

If you rub your Genie, don't you get three wishes granted?

No, but the genie service rep will laugh at you every time you call. If you're into that.

Final update: First ride out and when I nearing home, I started pushing the opener button and the door opened 250+ feet out at least. Better than my car!

Got me thinking…
I had seen this thing and thought it was an interesting idea. But I ride 3 bikes regularly and then it got kind of crazy - 3 of these things plus three handlebar tapings etc.. The way my garage roof is set up, early and late in the season, I can wind up having to try and get across slippery ice in bike cleats to open the garage door. So a solution like this was pretty interesting to me.
Anyhow, went out and bought a compatible keychain garage door opener at Home Depot that works really well and I only need one. Thing thing is pretty tiny too.

I'm contemplating ordering one. My only concern is that if my bike were stolen and the thief somehow figured out where I live, then they'd have instant access to my home.

Looks like you got it good. Your bicycle is better than your car, and your handlebar-mounted garage door remote is better than one for your car, too!

Good advice. It means I need to learn how to unlink remotes from my garage door opener. (That's a good thing to know, anyway.) Speaking of HomeLink, I do own a car that has HomeLink. I just never realized you can sync it with a garage door opener!

I have too many bicycles to make this device practical/economical.
The built-in garage opening feature of cars have proven quite convenient and useful since 1999 in our case.
Buying a remote for each bicycle seems frivolous and an overkill to me. If I use only one or two bicycles, I may have had a different opinion.

Try a Doormate 2. Relatively easy to move from bike to bike.
Doormate 2 – 12 speed products
