This may be another option for travel in remote places where cell coverage may be unreliable or where you do not have a phone plan with the local provider.

I am not buying one, just posting this as an FYI, as some users on this forum travel to far away places. I am usually only outside of cell coverage for a week or two a year, I can get by without communication for that. And my six year old Android phone is still quite functional. That said, if I was looking for a new phone, this would be on my consideration list. I know nothing else than what I read at those two links, if you have questions, I can't answer them.

Thanks for that article. I did not know that the SOS feature on iPhones uses a satellite. Good to know.
