Dynamo lights won`t turn off
 

I just installed a sturmey X-Fdd dynohub on my elephant bike. It powers the lights ( band M cyo and tailight ) ok but i can`t turn them off. I have several dynohubs,including another x-fdd on my other bikes,but have not had this happen before. I tried swapping the wires around but it stays on. Any help please,Thanks.

Yes, a switch on the back. But,it stays on.

If you ride it with the light in the off setting does the light illuminate? If so, then there is a problem with the light. If you ride it with the light on, then want it off, the standlight capacitor will need to discharge before the light is fully off. The standlight in my B&M taillights stays on for over an hour, they are just that good.

If there was a wiring problem between the hub and headlamp or between the headlamp and taillight, it would mean you could not turn it on, so not a wiring problem.

Is the headlamp still under warranty?

One of my B&M headlights, the on and off switch in the back of the light does not work. I did not realize that until after warranty expired. Mine is a different model.

Do you press the button while the wheel is turning? I’ve noticed that my Eyc doesn’t respond to the button when the bike is stationary. I assume the switching is electronic and needs some juice coming in to register the change.

Thanks for all your replies. I got this light when they first came out.It has the metal casing. I think I will just run it with the lights on.:) I`m suprised its still going at all after 15 years?

Wow, that is an amazing lifespan for anything electronic these days.

I expect most of my dyno lights will last 15 years, but I got my first one in 2011 and it failed. But that was because the shell came apart and let water in, I think.
