Fenix L2D CE Quick Release Mount
 

After reading through alot of threads on various forums and reviews, I finally settled on a Fenix L2D CE for my front light. However, I wanted to mount it to my bike in a way that was easy to get on/off and able to easily use the torch by itself. I used a TwoFish lock block for about a week whilst waiting to make my own mount. The TwoFish lockblock worked quite well and was quite secure, but slightly annoying to have to open/close the Velcro when I wanted to remove the torch from the bike.

Basically I gutted one of those cheap 5 LED front bike lights. I removed all the internal bits till i was just left with a shell and made a hole in the plastic at both ends of the bike light. The shell obviously has clicks into the mount on the handle bar and comes on/off easily.

The light is almost a perfect fit for the Fenix L2D CE. The diameter of the front and back is just slightly larger than the diameter of the torch. With some careful drilling and filing I got two holes at either end that fit the Fenix tightly. Also two of the grooves on the Fenix line up perfectly with the back and front of the bike light. I used a couple of o-rings to sit in the grooves to stop the Fenix moving back and forth.

Hope that helps others with ideas on how to attach their Fenix. The bike light is available from DealExtreme for USD4.62 with free shipping. Though I've seen this particular lights in heaps of different places.

so pick up an extra one for $5.00 and mount it as a be seen light in combination to the Fenix's
Getting 4 Fenix's, one on the helmet, and three on the bike would make a fantastic setup then have one smaller Power Beam for a flasher would be grand

Yeah the 5 LED light is surprisingly bright for the price. Until I decided what light to get I was using it as my main light. Most of the time in flashing mode but in the darker areas in constant on and it did a semi-decent job of lighting up the path.

The Fenix is great. Great alternative for some of the other commercial style versions out there like the Vega at only 85 lumens. Pair up a set of P3D's and you can scare children.

So to mount it you just slide it into the hole? How much to make me one? :)

To mount the torch you slide it into the plastic shell and secure it with the o-rings. Then to mount it to the bike you slide the plastic shell onto the a clip that goes around your handle bar.

It's pretty easy to make yourself, just need to be patient when filing out the shell. You don't need me to make it ;)

Jesper, how did you rip the led out of the housing?

When you open the front of the light to remove the battery cage there are a couple of screws that sit under the LEDs. Undo them both and you'll have the backside of the a printed circuit board. I can't remember exactly but you either need to undo some more screws or just get some pliers and pull the thing out. It should come out easily without damaging it as it's not held in very tightly.

What do you want to see exactly? The last pic without the o-ring is just the same but with a thin bit of clear plastic inside the the black shroud.

The thing to be careful with is that that the black shroud's inner diameter is slightly larger than diameter of the Fenix. So you can't use it as guide to how much of the clear plastic you have to file (the clear plastic in the second picture is the structural part and the black shroud is just for decoration). Just enlarge the clear plastic to under the size of the Fenix and then slowly file out the hole, constantly checking with the Fenix itself how much more and where you have to file the plastic.

Damn, sorry to hear that. How did it fall of did the plastic break on the housing? I know the plastic ain't going to be super high quality but didn't think it would break that easily. I loop the wrist strap of the Fenix around the handle bar for a fail safe.

I used this for quick release benefits. And the quick release won't hold. :(

Some black electrical tape wrapped around the hollowed casing and the flashlight itself would've secure it quite well, I'd imagine.

my blinky 7 is actually all red, so i took off the plastic part that has the LEDs and threw it out

sawed the two flaps off to get this: (the top sheet of hard plastic i got from one of them storebought energy drink containers

ziptie the flashlights to the plastic sheets, then screw the plate to the red blinky7, and voila!
The blinky 7/Superflash mount is incredibly strong, so I have two flashlights on one mount, and two more flashlights on another mount, you get four flashlights altogether

you could do this: 4X Fenix P3D CE, and get 640 lumens, and latch a L2D CE onto your helmet, use a crossfire setup like i did for the two flashlights on the plate
