Old light... New battery?
 

I have an old Cygolight that is powered by 6 "D-cell" batteries........ I know the new Cygo light plugs into my light but is the watt. or amps to much? I am curious as it would be nice to have a back-up battery..etc!!

Depends on the voltage. Check with Cygo. Your system, if you are correct about the number of cells, is 7.2V for NiCd or NiMH.

6 D cells is 9V. So, any 9V battery pack should work just fine. A lower voltage battery pack won't hurt the light, but it might not be as bright.

6 D cells in alkaline are 9V. Not in Nickel chemistry. 6 cells @ 1.2V per cell is 7.2V.

Don't worry, I thought the same thing until I realized that there aren't any 9V systems that I could think of out there.;)

That's true, but was the original light designed for alkaline or rechargeables? In any case, the light will be brighter at 9V and still be operating at a safe voltage. Batteryspace.com has both 8.4V and 9.6V nimh packs, either of these would work fine (as would a 7.2V pack)

An 8.4V pack might work but the 9.6V would probably be too much. A 7.2V is pushing a 6V bulb 10%, I'm not sure you can push them 30% and still have any useful life for the battery.

Most of the Cygo systems I've ever seen are rechargeable. All battery has a very nice 4500 mAh RC car battery for around $30.

I am not certain what you are asking? Do you have a current battery and plug? Does your current light have a jack? Regardless, I have two cygolites. One charger says 7.2 and the other says 6 volt. They both have the same plugs and both power "6 volt" systems.
