speedometer/odometer/timer/thingy-majig

Another newb question here.

I was riding just a few minutes ago and when I got home it said I did 11.69 miles in 30:36, with a top speed of 47mph. I did take the downward side of a big hill as fast as I could and then kept up with a semi half way though town. I took the whole ride at a pretty solid clip, but I find it hard to believe that after my first week of street riding (and my first week in 20 years without a cigarette) that I could pull that off.
Sooooooo… How do you calibrate the little speedometer/odometer/timer/thingy-majig to make it accurate???

no manual?

First figure out if you need to enter centimeters, milimeters,etc...

Then:
Along a straight line- driveway edge, expansion seam, etc.
1. Place a piece of tape on the ground
2. Place the valve stem in the middle of the tape, & while putting some weight on the front tire, roll it one complete time around.
3. Measure with a "standard" tape measure, & multiply by 25.4 to get measurement in mm, 2.54 for cm.
4. Enter this figure into the cyclometer.

What brand cyclometer do you have? & As asked, owners manual?

Yea, what everyone else said about the comp.

But congradulations on the quiting smoking! I just did on Christmas last year. Just remember that the first weeks is the worst and it gets easier every week. You might like to download this . It is a free counter that keeps up with how much money you have saved and how many cigs you havent smoked since you stopped. Here is what it says for me:

Dustin - Free and Healing for Nine Months, Ten Days, 14 Hours and 21 Minutes, while extending my life expectancy 24 Days and 14 Hours, by avoiding the use of 7090 nicotine delivery devices that would have cost me $1,262.49.

Thanks for the stop smoking counter. it has been a bit tough.

and no owners manual on the speedo counter thingy.

What brand is the computer?

If you google the type & model you can probably get a pdf of the instructions.
Once you input the correct wheel & tire size it will be much more accurate.

It's just a rinky-dink Schwinn one that came with the bike.
