Problems with LaCrosse BC-900

I have been reading stories about the BC-900 overheating during recharging. And was wondering if anyone out there had experienced any problems with it.

Overheating and meltdown were known issues with version 32. The current version (33) being sold at reputable places like thomasdistributing and amazon does not have these problems. I've been using a version 33 for the past month and it's working fine for me so far.

No problems for me but I never do quick charges I always use the 200mAh setting. It does not even feel warm after charging four batteries for 24-48hrs. I think I have the v33.

I read about this prior to my recent purchase and have experienced no problems. In addition to what stonecrd said, I have used faster charge settings with no problems.

One thing to keep in mind with the BC-900 is that it can only charge batteries up to 3000mAh. The Maha C-9000 can charge up to 4000mAh.

Why don't you return it for one that works properly?

They never responded to my first web inquiry & it still worked so I put it off. But I just contacted them again through their site & see if they respond this time & what solution they offer seeing the unit is out of warranty.

FWIW Maha has excellent custimer service and offers a 3 year warranty on their products.

Not that that matters too much. The theoretical capacity limit of a NiMH AA battery is about 3000mAh. The biggest I've ever seen is 2850mAh.

I'm going to have to check on this later today but if I recall right while working the C9000's modes the BREAK-IN mode allows 10,000mAh. I bought mine from www.paulsfinest.com (no affiliation) in Dec. and according to CPF (if memory is correct again) my charger is the current newest version.

Who knows what the future will bring? We now have low self discharge batteries. With current batteries being so close to 3000mAh I opted for the Maha.

I know in the CHARGE mode you can select up to 2000mA and the same as the CYCLE. This is going off the top of my head right now. When I have a chance to check the BREAK-IN mode on the C9000 (I own one) I can verify if it does have the 10,000mA support for breaking in cells that large (mostly D cells but I don't know how to charge C/D's on the charger yet).

Ok I checked the C-9000 and in the BREAK-IN mode you can condition up to a 20,000mAh battery. In the C-9000 it will show up as '20.00'.

Now the question is how do I get some setup to charge C/D cells made or can buy such a setup.

I'm not sure what fields to search under. I have gotten AA to C/D adaptors but that is not what I want. I want a C/D to AA adaptor. Perhaps you can find the link and post it please?

Thanks.
