Been wondering if any anti-theft bike seats exsist?
As the topic says or it anyone has made one that spikes the user if they don't use the right key to deactivate the bike or something. Had an odd dream last night of someone stealing a bike then getting a $ $ spiked.;)
I'm sure someone crazy enough has had thought of this before. |
It's possible but I wouldn't want to sit on anything like that for fear of a malfunction. Maybe a decoy seat though. After the ride remove your seat and replace it with the decoy seat. As for mechanism, I favor something along the lines of a bang stick used by scuba divers to protect themselves from sharks. Sitting on the decoy pushed a primer down on a firing pin creating hot expanding gases that push the spike up in the offender.
Makes a load pop along with the pain. You're lucky you caught me in an evil mood. |
Hmm...just thought what about having like 1/2 in nails sticking out of the seat but have a custom built to cover over the seat while riding. The seat cover would have a metal plate under it to prevent anything coming up. Then when you lock the bike you take the cover off and go. Was thinking some foam or putty something on that cover so it'll hold over the nails then come off after the riding.

Not sure where you live, but there are laws in the U.S that protect thieves too(unfortunately). If someone were to steal your bike and get injured with such a device, you could be held liable. I know, it's stupid.

Just use an quick release seat post clamp and open it up when you leave the bike. Shift down into the 52-11 gear combo and loosen the wheel quick release levers as well.
It'd be fun to watch someone try and ride off with THAT! |

I just tie my dog to the same pole the bike is locked too. Haven't had a problem yet. :D.... If they only knew he loved for them take it so he can go running. He's the most people friendly dog I know. Hey, but if they don't know....
p.s I never tie my dog and leave him unattended |
