Cateye Strada question...
 

I washed my mountain bike off after a recent ride at my local car wash. I took the computer itself off the bike and left it in the car as I sprayed the bike off. The next day, I went for a ride and the computers speed and odometer wouldnt work. After about an hour or so of riding it started working again though. Could water have gotten down in the sensor on the fork and caused it to malfunction? I figured it would be waterproof. Maybe I should put a small bit of silicon sealant where ther wires go into the sensor. Anyone here encountered that problem?

Mine quit working all the time when it got snow or water on it. Thus the reason I ditched it. I found it to be very unreliable. Being near batteries from lights also made it not function properly.

Thanks for the tip. I'm going to put a little silicone around where the wire goes into the sensor. Hopefully that will help out some. Its not a big problem, just kind of aggrevating.

I've never had that problem, and I've been caught out in a few downpours. That's why I have kept it.

Also, running your bike through a car wash is plain laziness, and will cause premature failure of bearings.

Yeah, I just wipe mine down from time to time.

FWIW, WD40 works well to cut the road grime that gets stuck to the frame (about the only thing I would use WD40 for on a bicycle except in an emergency). I use it kind of like how one would use furniture polish - spray some on a paper towel, and then wipe things down. The oil evaporates after a few hours.

Well, I work two jobs and do the best I can with the little time I have. I manage to get about 3 - 4 hours sleep a day, and squeeze a ride in when I can. Walk a mile in someones shoes before you spout off about things that you know nothing about. Thank you.

I have the same problem with the Cateye, but the problem isn't water in the sensor. I'm willing to bet that if you push the computer back into the base it will work. If this fixes the problem, take off the computer, from the base, and look at the contacts. Are they greenish? If so, just scrub them down and put it back on the base. Problem solved!

I put a dab of vaseline on the connector points which keeps the computer working great when raining.
