Tail light bar...

Funny I finished putting this together tonight and I see a similar thread...

Anyway; I had wondered in this thread if anyone had made a custom mount to get 3+ tail lights on a bike rack. I posted my plans and others posted similar ideas. Well, I finally made one.

Here are some pictures: http://people.msoe.edu/~capriotj/tail_lights/

I like the left offset, do driver's give you more space?

I just installed it last night :)

I don't know if I'll use it much right now... my main goal was winter use.

Nice. Now you need to add some reflective tape (DOT red/white?) to both the back and front of it.

For extra engineering credit, find a way to get all three Superflashes to flash in synchrony. There is some British research showing warning flashes in phase with each other works better. That seems plausible since multiple lights flashing in synchrony should better stand out from the noise of other random reflections, etc. It may also outline the size of an object better. I believe that the strobes on commercial jetliners flash in synchrony, as do the warning lights on radio & television masts & towers or emergency flashers on automobiles.

yeah... reflective tape is planned. Didn't think of taping the front though... good idea.

My plan for the Superflashes is to have one on each end on "steady" mode, then have a PB Blinky 7 in the middle on flash. I don't want to completely dazzle a driver's eyes with two superflashes on strobe :)

The only dnger with having horizontal "steady" lights like that is that a driver might think it is a car a long way ahead instead of a cyclist up close.

That's why all my lights are vertical, I'm considering putting a flasher out on sime kind of spacer though....

Might be something to consider.....

I had been trying to figure out how to get some superflashes on the rear of my bike. At least I know what I'm doing tonight thanks :D

I had gotten some aluminum angle for a front dual LED light so I have alot of scrap aluminum angle and I have lots of red reflective tape. Not sure I'm going to go through with all that CPVC though. I may just mount the angle different on the rack (I don't have rear holes on mine) slice a slot in the angle to clip the superflash in.
