Then it sounds like you want the Two Fish Lockblocks. But with shipping it will cost you as much as about 5 sets of the 8274 and it will still take you longer to move the light from bike to bike, so I'm not sure I see the point.

This is what I did: http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...hreadid=509266. The mount is actually attached to the flashlight, and mounts/unmounts a bike :) very quickly, one-handed, even with mitten gloves.

I have bee lurking on this forum for a while, today I finally joined. With all the discussion on the P7 lights I bought one as well. I opted for the MTE 5 mode sku 12060 . I have taken it to work and everyone is amazed how bright it is on high . It blows away the much more expensive li'l ed recoil leds lights we have on the job.This is the mounting bracket I bought with it from DX sku 15342 its quick release and fits on my 31.8mm bars. I am surprised no one else has seemed to suggested it. I haven't had the chance to give it the road test yet. Still waiting for the weather to warm up a bit more for my 26 km commute

Wow after 17 pages you guys (along with Unknown Cyclist) have convinced me! I have some questions though.

1) Is there a reflector I can replace the standard one with in order to make the light have better throw and less flood for road riding?

2) I was thinking of having 1 set up with a better reflector, and another one to get a bit of flood around so I can see the peripheral objects.

3) It seems that I need some protected batteries, a charger that is more than 600mA, and the torches. Anything I am missing?

4) There are so many different models which is the best? I figured I should avoid trustfire. The ones I have been looking at are these:

2: actually, just one can solve all of it: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.18475 the benefits of a massive reflector really gives a ton of spill, but also a very concentrated hot spot so you can really aim it down the road.
3: how will you mount it?

Planned on mounting it using 2 lock blocks on the stem with a shim if necessary. The one you linked to looks pretty good, any real difference between that and the $70 models: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.18071?

One other thing, is there a reflector or something that can be rigged up to stop light going into the sky and on-coming drivers eyes, at 900 lumens that can't be too good?

lol, no that would be on the stem using 2 lock blocks with this perhaps one: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.14212 - more floody than the wf-1000 AEO linked to, so would suit the set up I am aiming for.

My reasoning being the throw one will light up the road far ahead and the flood will provide spill for seeing the periphery and also allowing cars to see me.

The fenix I have at the moment will be on my helmet. Then the red torch will go on the back :)

well, the lights are great to have around the house too if you don't want to wait.

I got my used P7 from another BF member yesterday. Did not have time to take it for a ride, but I did take it out in the front yard to blind any nocturnal animals or drivers who had the misfortune to be in the area.

All I can say is WOW! The thing made the street signs at the other end of my street glow! I do think I will end up having to make some sort of hood to use on the light when I mount it on my bars. This is the light I bought:

Would like to see what others have done about making hoods/deflectors for their lights.

Can't wait until the next Cub Scout camping trip in May, so I can win the flashlight bragging contest as we sit around the campfire!

Could probably make a quick hood using an aluminum can and some tin snips.

I was thinking about something like that to reduce glare into other road user's eyes, so I could run it at full power :D

The reason I can see for waiting is that during the summer I am sure someone will come up with either a better design or a better emitter. At least now though I know what I want!

I was thinking of using some of the material we use to make molds and the vacuum former at work, and a piece of rod stock of the same diameter as the head of the light, and some zip ties. If I go this route, I will let you know.

That's the same light I have. I use it as is and you are right, it is impressive. I use a Fenix Q5 on the helmet.
