5-mode takes forever! to cycle through the mode I want, which is mid
MTE 2-mode: high > low > off > repeat MTE 5-mode: mid > off > low > off > high > off > strobe > off > SOS > off > repeat fully depress button once until you get a 'click' to turn it on, then a light tap on the button will get you to: mid>low>high>strobe>SOS>repeat fully depress button again to turn off. the good thing is that you don't have to depress the switch all the way to get the next mode. simply tap the button lightly and it does the same as pushing the button all the way in. |
I got the new 5-mode (16092), its regulated to 2800mA apparently but I'm going to measure and see what it's drawing anyway. The modes work well for me, Hi-Mid-Lo-Strobe-SOS. I'm only having one problem, after I turn it on, 2 seconds later there is a very slight flicker, it never happens again as long as its on but it does it every time. Kind of weird but doesn't seem to be a real problem.

Just finished playing around real quick with the light on, its raining so I didn't test for long. First of all, I want to say that while the P7 is floody, it throws at least much light long distance as the Q5 or more so (to my eyes). The Q5 beam is spottier for sure but the pure power differential makes the P7 work at least as well at long range while providing much more illumination up close. The P7 plus the L2D focused about 75 feet out is very solid and all the light I could ever need. However, I do still have another P7 coming in anyway:eek: The P7 spot is bigger so it isn't as distracting when it bounces around as my bars move a bit on climbs and things which is great.
So once I get the other P7 in, they'll be on double bar duty and then I'll either have the L2D on the bars complimenting the mid-range or on my helmet. Conclusion: Big thumbs up for 5-mode P7.:thumb: |

haha its funny how when the time changes everyone jumps for new lights, and this year there's alot of options out there too. I had my P7 since June, got it since some of my after work 50 mile rides extended past sunset.
When you all get you're lights, you'll be AMAZED!!!! Don't be scared to change the battery out every hour or soo, its SOOO worth it unless you're dieing to spend $400+ bucks that will put out about the same output but have a 4hr runtime. |
^ Yup. The light is more than worth it. I run mine on the 3-times-per-second strobe during the daytime, and on high at dusk/night. I switch batteries every couple of night rides, and have never had a problem.
I ordered a second mount to allow me to use my P7 on either bike (just bought a new bike), so I'm waiting for that (and the second Super flash I ordered) to arrive. |
what bike did you get?
|
Forge CTS 1000, ordered it online. Put it together in about an hour after it arrived, then took it to the bike store to have them tune the gears and brakes. Loving it so far. :D
|
decent bike to get you on the road!! Hope you enjoy it.

Edit: Wait for my new pictures

All those pics look way too dark here on my work computer, the Fenix isn't even showing up. Weird, it looked great on my Samsung 226bw at home, let me know if you guys find them too dark as well and I'll try something different. Turns out my expose was not 6 seconds, more like 1-1.5, don't know how I screwed that up, haha I'll get new pics tonight.
|
Yeah, I was kind of wondering. They worked OK for comparison though. :)
|
I'll use a tripod tonight too, also my second P7 may be in today.

What mount can I use with oversize drop bars? I think the clamp area is 31.8mm, and they taper out to around 28mm as the tops near the hoods... this makes it difficult to mount stuff.
|
I have a winged bar and use the 2fish block style mount without a prob.

I ordered one of the new 5-modes on 10/8 and it arrived 10/21. I haven't had a chance to try it at night yet but I did see some of that flickering that someone mentioned above. It seems to have gone away now. Is the trustfire charger safe to leave unattended and is it safe to leave plugged in after the batteries are fully charged? I'm a little wary of electrical products from China..
|
I would say it is safe to leave unattended, but do not leave the cells on the charger after you get a green light showing full charge..

Ok I got some slightly better shots, they're still kind of dark, my camera wouldn't go above 4 seconds exposure so that is the limit for me. These look quite good on my Samsung 226 22" here but it seems that some crts aren't showing the subtle shading at all so just turn up your brightness to get a better picture if thats the case.

I suggest getting a minoura space grip and using the DX blocks on the minoura. |
I ordered a couple P7's and accessories.
The holder is a POS so I have to rig up a holder before I can test these lights. POS $1.99 Holder. Do not order this accessory: Flashlight Mount https://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.792 18650 Digital Battery Charger - a little chintzy but seems to charge 'em up so far: https://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.3499 TrustFire TR-801 Cree Q5-WC 5-Mode Memory 230-Lumen LED Flashlight $19.98 Cute little flashlight fits in my palm! I will be strapping this on as a helmet light. If this holds up over time and the elements, it will be an AMAZING deal on a bike light. https://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.15335 Aurora AK-P7-5 HA-III SSC P7-C 5-Mode 900-Lumen LED Flashlight with Assault Crown $39.99 A bigger light, too big and heavy to strap onto a helmet but it'll be going on my handlebars. Very substantial feeling light. I expect this flashlight to last a LONG time. https://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.16091 |
