Illuminite leggings
It seems there hasn't been a recent illuminite thread. :)
From my searches, it seems the consensus is that illuminite jackets work well, but are a little too warm (non breathable) for most folks. Great advice all, thanks. Since I too tend to overheat, I'm considering some illuminite leggings. I'm not too concerned with overheating since warm legs aren't too uncomfortable (heck, just pull them down if you're too hot). Here are the ones I'm looking at: http://www.performancebike.com/shop/...tegory_ID=1341 I live in the high desert where our winters are dry and cool, so rainy/foggy conditions are of no concern. What are your thoughts on illuminite (yes, I'm sure it's overrated and too expensive). Thanks (EDIT: Gah, I probably should've submitted this to teh winter forum) |
If you're purely looking for enhanced visibility, then you might consider just getting some 4-inch-wide 3M Scotchlite in the sew-on variety, stitching a couple sections together, terminating them with Velcro, and they should utterly dominate the Illuminite. Or if you actually want legwarmers for their own sake, maybe get some standard legwarmers and iron on some 3M Scotchlite.
Ten feet of the 4-inch sew-on stuff is $16, and ten feet of the 3-inch iron-on is $19: http://www.identi-tape.com/refl-fabric-gateway.html For some pics of how it looks, see this thread: http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?p=7459700 |
I wouldn't mind some iron on reflectors for the leggings (since I only wear those on the bike during winter/night riding). I'll probably pass on the jacket sew-ons since I wear my jackets off the bike too... don't want to look too dorky in public).
I wonder if the average fabric shop carries the stuff. I'll have to check it out. Thanks |
