How do I know if a charger is "smart?"

May be smart but I'd recommend this one.
I have it and it is super and refreshes older cells saving me from throwing out some very servicable ones.

the one you listed has independent charging ciruits, and measures -delta V and slope detection,

it is real smart,

and that is a good find by the way... most that are smart aren't that cheap

i've been using my dad's MH-C777PLUS-II and have been really impressed! i don't know if this is the most current model available... Link

i've been charging my Nikon SLR li-ion, Canon xl2 li-ion, rc car nimh, AA nimh, AAA nimh, etc. i've been able to declutter my desk, kitchen counter, dining room table, etc and free up like a dozen outlets around the house! anywho, the versatility of a good universal charger easily justifies the pricetag.
