Dinotte with PBSF Test

Dinotte 140L mounted behind saddle. Slow Flash
PBSF mounted on chain stay.

The SF is great, but where this test really matters ( I run both) is in high ambient light conditions like rush hour at dusk or a snowstorm. The DiNotte's advantages are so patently obvious it's almost scary.

Same here. I use the Dinotte for DayTime Riding.
Just wanted to compare at night.
Will make another video this evening at dusk. It will show the bike as well as my car tail lights.

unterhausen 02-04-09 09:10 AM

that's impressive. PBSF is pretty bright at night.

KungPaoSchwinn 02-04-09 02:29 PM

Excuse me for asking, i have the same light as well, i had to return my first one because it stopped working after one hour riding, they sent another one, i am satisfied with such good service, but what is PBSF stands for?

That's the same setup I run. Looks good. Thanks for putting up the video.

ROJA 02-04-09 06:10 PM

I think the Dinotte's flashing pattern is way too slow.

He did say that was the Slow flash. The light has several modes including ones that keeps the light on at a lower level between flashes.

KungPaoSchwinn 02-06-09 06:35 PM

Thanks for the explaination for PBSF. Anyone has a video/comment on the Dinotte's front amber head light? it costs the same as the tail light. Is amber really more visible in day time ,i don't ride at night at all, thanks in advance.

JinbaIttai 02-06-09 07:12 PM

That Dinotte blows away a PBSF.

One test video I'd like to see is a price matched test. One Dinotte 140L against 8 PBSFs.

I had the Dinotte on SLOW FLASH as to give the PBSF a chance to show up.

On Fast Strobe the Dinotte would be too bright and the PBSF might be able not show up in the video.

That would be a Fair Test.
I will be able to do that test with 4 PBSF soon.
I tried to take another video at dusk last night.

My neighbor came out to ask what I was doing.
He said The Dinotte was Way To Bright as to cause accidents.

After he left and I put up the bike I found that the camera did not record.
Darn

Today on a 86 miles ride The Dinotte Quit Strobing.
I contacted Dinotte, waiting for a reply.

I have had several people who have passed me on the way into work comment on how bright my dual Vetta tail lights are. I'd like to see them compared the the Dinotte.

Dinotte made a Quick Reply.
Light is Now OK.
Control of flashes has something to do with How Long I hold the On Button in.

I can show you that later.
I gave a Vetta to a friend.
Will get it for a Test.

Please do! I can't wait to see the comparison. I'm betting on the Dinotte against 1 Vetta TSL-C, but I think 2 Vettas would win.

I would say that the amber has the edge as far as visibility is concerned (although both are quite bright and either one should be more than adequate for most conditions).

I have both mounted as tail lights to the bottom of a milk crate about 11 inches apart. I keep them in the strobe/pause mode day and night. The timing of each light is slightly different so the result is a constantly changing pattern between the two which probably makes them even more noticable.

This review on the Dinotte web site was helpful:

Levels the playing field
From Michel Kurita of Ottawa, Ontario on 9/18/2008.

I purchased a Dinotte amber daylight visible light a week ago, and I mounted it as a tail light. I believe a flashing amber light is more effective than red for tail lights because:
a)The unique colour stands out in a sea of red car tail lights
b)Amber is more visible to the eye
c)Amber means "caution"
d)Flashing amber means "slow moving vehicle"
e)Flashing red just means "prepare to stop" and if the purpose of a flashing light is to catch a drivers attention, then amber is much more effective at this.
f)This light is close to 130 lumens - my previous Planet Bike Superflash tail light is probably 20 to 30 lumens. Therefore, my tail light is as bright as a Lexus RX L.E.D. rear light array, but the Dinotte is more visible as it is amber. I also have been using 2 Planet Bike 1 watt L.E.D lights on the front (they are probably close to 100 lumens together - <i>just</i) visible during the day head on). I'm planning to upgrade this to 300 lumens.

The result has been that drivers no longer wait to make room for me at the last minute - their passing maneuver begins earlier, and they remain in that position, leaving me with a "corridor" lane as I approach a red light. Not one driver has tried to pass then turn right, right in front of me. I have not heard one obscenity, even though I know if you stare at the light, it is quite blinding.

Blows it away to the point that the Superflash only ends up being there in case the Dinotte goes out. I wear my SF on the helmet so it tends to shine at different angles which may help distinguish it from the Dinotte a little bit.

I got my Dinotte for $100, a commonly available price. Don't think you can get 8 SF for that.

Corpus Christi, Tx. Hmmm, that will be central time in the states. one hour and five minutes from now, i can't wait, getting my popcorn and coke now.
