Hi everyone! I'm new to the forums, and just had a quick question. If anyone could offer any suggestions, I'd appreciate it.

I'm working with an organization throughout the summer called Bike & Build. We're a non-profit organization that raises money / awareness for affordable housing by biking across the country. My group will be biking from Boston, MA to Santa Barbara, CA.

So, I'm looking for bike computers, but there's so many it's hard to decide.

Basically, I'm looking for all the standards, HRM, cadence, time, etc. But, I'd also like something that calculates elevation changes and shows gradients, just for my own geeky data needs

Again, any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

I'm looking for a device that does the same things asked but I don't need HR. I don't like the Garmin Edge series as they seem to expensive and are too fragile. I like the look Sigma Rox 9.0, it is less than 300 and I think, if you don't need the software for your computer to really be geeky as it graphs it all for you, version 8.0 is basically the same thing.

I really only need to know how much I climb and if that includes the grade % that would be good too. But my budget is around 100.

This is the new version of the CS600 and will track all the stats you are looking for and will log your entire trip (speed, cadence, elevation and heart rate) for downloading when you return home. Recording rate is configurable, so at the 60 second recording rate you can get ~ 5,000 miles before you run out of memory. It will show elevation in numbers or slope angle. Heart rate and elevation can be tracked in graph while you ride.
Unlike Garmins, you don't need to charge and the battery can go about a year before it needs to be replaced. They are selling for $400 but you can get the older version for a few bucks cheaper. There's a GPS option for logging the ride, but that will put you over $500. If you go GPS, you'll need to pick up AAs every couple of days.



A slightly cheaper option is the model below th CS600, CS400, which has less memory, older wireless technolgy and lacks GPS option, but will meet your number gathering requirements and still log your entire ride.

Sigma Rox 8.0. I would recommend the 9.0 but they are backordered everywhere until April.

Thanks everyone. I think the sigma rox is exactly what I was looking for, and a bit cheaper. Maybe I'll get lucky and find it somewhere.

I don't have any personal experience with it, but have you checked out the VDO Z3? It's a bit pricey for my budget, so I have been looking at the MC 1.0+ instead. That one doesn't have all the stuff you wanted, but I think the Z3 does. Maybe someone else can offer a review on the VDO computers for us?
